While looking for the new domain, I came across a ton of different people saying ss is illegal or evil, and I'm curious what everyone's opinion is.
I personally think they're stupid, because I've seen a lot of people change their mind on here, and even if not, ss keeps messy, painful, and ctb with a low success rate from happening as often. Also, I think that this community is super nice, and though it covers a dark topic, it keeps a lot of loneliness at bay.
I get the feeling most people feel similar to me, but I wouldn't mind hearing different reasonings and such!

In all honesty, I feel for them. They're strongly mistaken about the nature of this website, but they've been hurt and are looking for someone/something to blame. As much as I find them annoying, I can't help but feel bad for them.

I think both sides will never reach a true understanding. The way I see it, they've been raised their entire life with the notion of 'suicide=bad' while not looking any deeper into it, so convincing them otherwise is out of the question (especially people impacted by loss). For me, it goes vice versa- living just seems like such a wasted effort, and it's difficult for me to understand their drive in life / obligation to force others to magically obtain a drive.
That being said I acknowledge that I have no ground to judge them for something I can't understand, so I wouldn't call them stupid, annoying or mistaken maybe, but not stupid. The only thing to do is just to continue with the site, as it's not illegal or unethical.

Exactly. How f?!king *stupid* is this?? Yes, people seek out the site because they're feeling like they don't wanna be here anymore, but if they were really determined to CTB, nothing would stop them; they wouldn't need to be "convinced".

Ok, I found the site some years ago, because I was having dark thoughts & suicide had crossed my mind, as it does when I'm in this mood.

However, I never ACTUALLY want to die; if I did, nothing would stopped me, as I said above.

I think most people come here because they're lost & hurting, and want to convince themselves that they're actively taking steps towards CTB, *without* actually wanting to truly do so.

They then fall into conversation with others who are struggling with their own mental health, and discuss the subject of suicide & related topics, all the while effectively procrastinating over actually going through with the action, as their mindsets are perhaps changed by something someone says on here.

The point is, YOU STOP FEELING SO ALONE which is a crucial first step towards NOT ctbing.

But the ignorant fools who want to shut the site down don't see this; they just see the forum as an obvious launch pad to point their misguided fingers at.

I think they are the unwitting agents of evil, invisible forces. The attitude they seem to have towards us is - "If you are planning or desiring to commit suicide, then you have impaired reasoning faculties that others are taking advantage of. And so, your only options are to stop what you are doing and get help that results in the continuation of your life, or be locked up against your will. All for your own good, of course, since you are clearly in no position to think for yourself or make rational decisions."

I feel no pity or sympathy for them anymore. It's 1 thing to just wanna take the site down it's another with the doxxing, the threats and all this disgusting fucking energy being thrown around.

The way they are talking about members of this site and "if only they could get 1 of us in a room alone" is fucking disgusting.

I feel like this has been mentioned before but a lot of their actions are giving me "abusive mom" teas honestly. All they're bullshit now is reminding me of my mother.

I just want someone to directly point out how fucked up their actions are and WHAT IF THEY PROVOKE TO THE POINT OF NOW AIDING IN SOMEONE's SUICIDE?

I saw one of em. advocating for the removal of PPH all together.... something that is advertised to 50+ individuals that are terminally ill or at that point like what the fuck.

They are not in their right minds and no fucking grief excuses the bullshit they're doing.

Just because you lost your child doesn't give you the god damn excuse to parade and hurtle violent and otherwise abusive shit at random people you don't know.

It's vile as fuck to be so up a website ass that you're trying to publicly expose people.

Often these people are lashing out because they've suffered a traumatic loss and seek some kind of recompense. I wonder how many lives SS has saved, been a lot of posts on here about how being on here has really helped people, I like the fact I can share openly on here and have a greater sense of belonging.

In the end the 2 sides may have to tolerate being in a world where the other exist, just leave us alone with our autonomy.

I seriously doubt their motives if they are looking for someone/something to blame. They are either covering their own fear to openly discuss the real reasons behing a suicide, or they are simply not accepting their own fault.

I can't help but put them in a group similar to flat-earthers, anti-vaxxers, anti-covid protesters etc. They just don't want to see facts, are emotion driven and try to get their points across using lies and (verbal) violence instead of just giving valid arguments. And when we try to give arguments they are covering their ears like a kid and go "la la la" (you're welcome for the earworm).
Another factor is that they are fully convinced that they are right and just want to make the world a better place and do us a favor. They think banning places like this site will end suicide once and for all.

My feelings? I feel sorry for their naivité, I am angry at their methods and I am happy for them that they live in their bubbles and are happy like that.

You don't blame a bartender or the bar for serving alcoholic drinks to someone that ended up driving drunk and killing themselves or others in a car crash; you blame the person that chose to buy the drinks in the first place. People are driven to suicide by a variety of internal and external factors but at the end of the day they decide whether it's their time to leave; nobody makes the choice for them.

This absurd suicide prohibition is what's evil, abusive, and illegal; society and regular people are perfectly content to twiddle their thumbs while people rot for decades as lifeless husks. If they want to prevent suicide so badly then maybe they should try doing what @nottrying23 suggested; actually providing tangible forms of relief.

this sort of thing will continue to happen because suicide leaves behind a lot of grief, pain, whatever synonym you want to use. the first thing people do when they are in pain is blame it on someone. this site is an easy target. hopefully SS can get out of it, which they have seemed to do with mirror sites.

i think the fight has only started. when i see that assisted suicide is more and more discussed in different countries then i think that there is already a bit of change. of course it is still a long way and there also will be some setbacks.

and i guess the loud whistle will be blown a lot cause suicide is such a taboo topic and cause of that an easy target for some pro-life fundamentalists. and demonizing such things is an easy thing to do when nobody wants to talk about it openly.

luckily the internet is still a very fluid room with lots of decentralised spots. so one more reason to also fight for a free web to make it possible to find safe spaces for everybody.

What the mass of people believe or do not believe is unimportant in situations like this. A small group of zealots working as a group who kick up enough fuss can and will get a site like this removed. The last thing most hosts want is controversy and they'd rather just cut one customer loose than run the risk of some sort of public relations controversy.

Did anyone see that video on youtube with the young Canadian guy and his parents pleading for assisted suicide, because their son had to be alone in his last moments? He had this mental issue that caused him a lot of physical pain.
