The idea that you can put your throat on the train tracks and the train will run over your throat and sever your head is a myth- this doesn't work. The reason is because typically on the front of a train over each rail in front of the wheels is something that clears debris for the wheels gets to whatever is on the tracks out of the way- so then a person will either go flying or get pushed to the side or get pulled under the train. This device is called a cow catcher, and a definition of it is: "A cowcatcher, also known as a pilot, is the device mounted at the front of a locomotive to deflect obstacles on the track that might otherwise damage or derail it or the train."
Actually this is only true in some places. No doubt where the risk of debris and animals getting on the track is high.
I visited the tracks myself searching for a spot. I found one. Saw a few trains pass. None of them had a cow catcher or anything similar. I searched up track size and went through details on how I would do it. Fwiw tracks are varied in width but it's generally between 5 and 6 inches where I am. I found something that size to put my neck on and its quite a chunk. Takes up most of a persons neck. That was a bit off putting for me as its not so much a slice as a crush and split. It would be quick, sure but the pain would be pretty rough even for that split moment. Then I realised that even if I did it right (which in itself is a challenge because you have come out from hiding and position yourself just right and a potential hot or cold rail that is kind of in a ditch in many cases due to the large gravel/rocks they put around the tracks. It would be easy to trip. Time it wrong and/or leave your hands or limbs on the tracks and have them hit first which would no doubt cause you to flinch and be mangled) my head would most likely bounce around beneath the train and be damaged beyond recognition. I didn't want to do that to my family even though I'd have been identified another way no doubt, under those circumstances. The train I was looking at was an intercity train. It looks basically like a train section and had no more than three carriages. I found that different trains and manufacturers/sponsors has slightly different trains but none where I looked had the cow catcher. Some had some lower bits of mechanics but none low enough to move debris. They look a lot like the underground trains seen in America. No streamlined front and back end. There are news reports of people being decapitated by trains. It does happen.
I think I could have done it. But honestly, I'm glad I didn't. It's not a nice way to go. Undignified and really quite tragic. At the time, and even now really, dignity is a low priority but it would make me feel better not to leave that memory with my loved ones. If they know I've gone peacefully they may be able to be somewhat happy for me once they manage to come to terms with the loss.
But yeah, definitely desperation and fear are the driving factors to decapitation by train. As for just jumping in front with no fucks given. I guess it's the same motivation with less common sense behind it. It's a horrible place to be in, when you just need that torment and pain to stop. The only thing that kept me going at the time was the knowledge that it would eventually one way or another. Ironic really when you think that through. Didn't do it because I knew I could. I don't think I'd do train now after going through those motions. H, N, something down that avenue for me now. Tried partial and somehow fought my way out after passing out. SI surprised me. Somehow got myself out the noose in the thick of it and basically my vision slowly started coming back as I was leaving the room. Storming out on foot like I was possessed. Body vibrating with some kind of pins and needles. Hands and feet numb. Ligature bruises on my neck. Couldn't go down that route again now. It's not a nice way to go. Too violent.
