An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.
Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.
I'm really craving self harm right now, to a point I feel insane if i don't. I've been using a razor for as long as I can rember and have tried a knife before but I don't have the willpower to cut with it. I also have the fear of waking up my roommate if I do get a nice cut. How can I just get a nice deep cut with a knife and still stay silent?
Interesting. I have quite the opposite problem. I have no problem pulling out my knife and carving up myself but I would be terrified to do something with a razor blade. What do you think is stopping you? What makes the knife different from the razor?
(Edit: Your post reminded me to sharpen my knife. Thank you! )
I have never been able to bring myself to self harm with metal, only my fingernails. I typically don't self harm in general, only when I am deeply frustrated or feeling aggressive and end up turning that inwards - has to get out somehow or I get that 'crazed' feeling at not utilizing an outlet. Forveleth has good questions that should be helpful.
It can be satisfying doing a substantial amount of damage but physically it often doesn't hold up as well. Maybe it's because of the desire to do a singular deep cut, the intent may be putting you off subconsciously? I wouldn't worry about staying silent or not, that's like torture. If you're worried about them hearing, just wait until they can't. Or just stay with what you're familiar with. If it helps, it helps, no real need to try something new. I only do self-harm to soothe my emotions to heal, as the festering emotions from lack of soothing do more damage than skin that heals on its own. I can't advise further but I hope you feel better soon.

thats a mental barrier you have to overcome on your own. and if you're using the long end instead of just stabbing, it's probably really hard. i tried before i started using razors and i couldn't get any penetration because usually kitchen knives are just so dull. maybe buy a knife sharpening kit so it's easier to cut at first to get the first cut going.
It has to be sharp, never tried it but cut my fingers mutiple times in the kitchen lol. If you're super set on it maybe try disassembling a disposable shaving razor
my go to is a dull pocket knife i just do a quick gash on my upper arm w my eyes closed. it's a level of pain i'm 'comfortable' with and there's less of a mental barrier for me that when i tried on softer skin.
I've tried ceramic knives before. They are a lot sharper and less intimidating than regular metal knives. They are small enough to fit into a pocket. Maybe look into one of those?
The best way to do it with a knife is just to use a really sharp one, I personally use a karambit to cut with and it doesn't take a lot of willpower to get it to cut you. I struggle to cut deeply unless I'm on the verge of ctb but I got addicted to cutting years ago, using razor blades always made me more nervous that people would find out (I've never lived on my own so it's easier to get caught and have everything sharp taken from me) but with knives I just tell people I have them for self defense and no one questions it. If your knife is sharp enough then you should be able to make some pretty deep cuts without a lot of effort. As far as staying silent, you can put some kind of cloth in your mouth to help muffle any sounds you make, I usually cut on my thighs and am pretty used to the pain of it by now so to me staying silent is the easy part.
