On January 10th this year, I took more than 150 propranolol 40mg tablets (6g). In order to potentiate the effect of the drug (and to avoid waking up for any reason), I also took 60 pills of Clonazepam 2mg + 30 pills of dimenhydrinate 100mg (very common antiemetic here in Brazil). I woke up about 17 hours later unable to move my legs. Desperate, I called my dad, who took me to the hospital. I spent one night there and the next morning I was discharged. According to the doctor on duty, my difficulty in walking was just a "thing of my head." When I tried to walk, I fell on the aforementioned doctor and had to get out in a wheelchair. It would be comical if it were not tragic.

At home, my mother decided to take me to a trusted angiologist to investigate what had happened and what could be done in front of that condition. I was already swollen, with pain in my hips and legs and still having difficulty standing. He immediately asked for my hospitalization and I spent two weeks receiving treatment and taking tests. In the end, little has been found, much less understood. Some doctors thought I was lying. How did I not die after taking such a madly high dose of propranolol?

No thrombosis, no noticeable heart problems. What remained was a venous insufficiency and a pain in the left hip that almost disappeared. The circulation problem is getting milder and weaker.

Liver enzymes are back to normal and kidney functions are fine.

What do you believe may have happened? What could I have done wrong not to be dead or in a worse situation?

I will really appreciate your attention in helping me understand this failed incident.

EDIT: I didn't vomit and didn't perform activated charcoal gastric lavage (at first I omitted from doctors the fact that I had overdosed on medicines 'cause I didn't want to be saved).

Thank you for trying to help.

Maybe no one knows exactly why this things happen. There are many variables that may have helped me survive, and every organism is a world. Science will probably take a long time to know precisely why some people take very lethal injections and do not die, and why others come to extreme conditions in which it is theoretically impossible to survive, but they succeed.

I am sorry you have suffered.

If I'm not mistaken the lethal dose (and that probably for half the population) is 8 g. It's best combined with verapamil. As for the legs, you messed with your heart and blood circulation, so why are the doctors surprised and think it's in your head? Mind you, I have zero knowledge of medicine but that seems to be common sense.

"the lethal dose (and that probably for half the population) is 8 g". This information is not common sense. I think it's not even scientific sense.

I was referring to the legs thing when I said common sense. The dose is not my opinion. Go on and double check, but 6 mg propranolol is not necessarily going to kill you, especially without verapamil.

It's OK, we all understandably get cranky at times. We're dying.

Maybe if we all here lived together, life would be bearable. It would be a place where we would feel belonging.

Wow. Sorry for your experience. The human body is so unpredictable. If you couldn't walk could it have been due to nervous damage?

I probably had some inflamed nerves, but the biggest cause of difficulty in moving my legs was the whole time I was sleeping (17 hrs) with very poor blood circulation. Probably I slept with my body on my left leg and that's why it got more damaged. But soon I walked again. Today I walk normally without pain, although rarely I feel a slight discomfort on the left hip.

I am as before, but my mind is slower and memory and cognition have been reduced. I am taking the same medicines I was before this event (Lamitor, Desvenlafaxine, Loredon), with the addition of another mood control medicine (quetiapine) and Diosmin (for circulatory issues). What is most noticeable is that I am definitely slower in all aspects and tired most of the time.

Don't worry, I don't feel sorry about any residual effects of this attempt. I really don't care to be broken outside, or to be dumber. As long as my mental pain subsides a little, I'm in paradise.

That is probably the hardest thing to achieve.
