I think on average you'd be killed by someone you know, not just some random criminal pointing a gun at your head. You gotta befriend more potential murderers... hmm actually writing that out it doesn't sound like such a great plan either.

Maybe start writing to a lot of killers in prison like some people do. But I don't think most of those people are ever going to be released.
But when it comes to taking the bus, I've always wanted to leave my life in my own hands. If someone tried to kill me, I'd probably fight hard. I don't really want anyone else choosing my destiny.
But I understand your pain and predicament and why you are thinking what you are.

I sometimes imagine going out like a hero, like this: I'm out somewhere, and someone pulls out a gun and starts shooting people. I would just run right at them, hoping they have good aim. If they kill me, I win. If they panic and I end up holding their gun to their head until the cops come, I win again. Bring it on.
Unless you are in an area known for lots of crime and violence, the crime is stupidly blown up on almost every form of media. If you do, you have to be very lucky that the person actually wants to kill you, and even if it does, it may miss and do something worse to you than a botched suicide attempt.
So yeah, people don't kill you cause killing is usually not profitable, and can have heavy criminal charges.
