Hello,

I started scratching my arm with a razor blade a month ago. Does anyone have any tips on how I can protect my arm from amputation or infection?

Thx for everything

Clean your blades with some alcohol, and you can use alcohol wipes after the cutting. Your immune system takes care of anything else.
I don't think amputation is necessary unless you make sure its very much infected and unthreated, so dont worry.

You could try to find a safer replacement to scratching your arms, something like workouts with dumbbells till you become tired.

i use a butter or plastic knife and press it into my outside wrist hard, only sometimes i draw blood. its not the exact same kind of pain as actually cutting but for me it offers that relief, and is much more concealable/safer

if you cut, make sure everything is sterile then itll decrease the risk. that would include isopropyl alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, sterile bandages, and if possible an antibiotic ointment like neosporin

please take care!!

Better than cleaning the blades, use a new one each time.
When you say you're "scratching" it, is this because you're using a shitty disposable razor which does frustratingly little? Or is it that this is sufficient to achieve the desired effect? Is it the action and sensation that you want? Is it an external expression of your emotional pain? Do you want to gain the attention of someone (perhaps a parent) that you feel is neglectful (it's nothing to be ashamed of)? But it's important to be honest with yourself about the motivation for doing this.
As has been said, hygiene is crucial. Wash your skin beforehand, use new blades where possible (boiling them and using a disinfectant are alternative measures) and thoroughly wash the area afterwards.
I just always had a fascination with the blood. I would collect it in small bottles from an early age, just to see what happens to it with time. I find keeping a picture of a nice, gruesome wound useful and it tends to satisfy the urge.

I always use a completely new blade. If I run out of blades, I will go to the nearest shop and steal some. It's really not that hard. I cut before taking a shower, so the wounds are getting cleaned right after cutting. I don't use any sort of alcohol or anything else for my cuts, I just let them be.

Clean the area before cutting. Then wash your cuts using soap and water and then disinfect your cuts using an antiseptic. You can also use an antibiotic cream around them. Use bandages to keep them covered and change them everyday. This can help to keep debris out and minimize scarring. Do not use rubbing alcohol on them since it will kill off your healthy tissue and prolong the amount of time needed for your cuts to heal. You can also wash them out using saline (0.9% NaCl) but I don't think it's necessary, espeically since it seems as though you have mainly given yourself cat scratches.

Also, make sure to either replace or disinfect your equipment after each use. I usually use rubbling alcohol to disinfect them.

You can also try using less risky methods, like hitting or snapping rubber bands instead.
