I've creeped through all of these posts and though there is plenty of posts related to Carbon Monoxide and a variety of strategies to use it - I've seen many news reports of people being found passed in their homes due to a carbon monoxide leak (mostly in older homes). From what I've researched the effects of such a leak would take approximately 3 hours to become fatal, the symptoms associated can include headaches and nausea, but only for about 15 minutes until you become unconscious.
If you lived in a house alone, could reliably count on no interruptions for at least 24 hours, locked the doors with a note on the door announcing there's a gas leak and to call 911, took a sleeping pill, and went to bed. Seems like such a peaceful way to go, so what's the catch?

The effects on the body of CO are similar to those of SN, except that with SN you only have to take it and not prepare everything that CO entails.

I've thought about this too. How would one go about creating a leak?

If you start messing with the heating systeem, unless you really know what you're doing, maybe you'll accidentally start a fire or an explosion. Other CO methods, like charcoal in a small space, may be better.

Yes that's what I'm afraid of. My house was built in the 60's and mostly everything down to the plumbing is still original, which leads me to believe that this route would be more likely to be seen as an accident rather than, well.. the obvious. From everything I've read in the previous threads, charcoal, SN, etc - all seems like it's fairly hard to get your hands on, and especially so if you don't have the money to spend. I'm in Ontario and many of the things listed require license or prescription.

You can get charcoal at any grocery store or hardware storeor target or walmart or wherever- you can get it anywhere, and it's very cheap. It's a method that requires research and planning, like most methods.

It's really not a carbon monoxide leak that lets CO get emitted into a house. It's more of a flue pipe becoming plugged up. For instance, if birds build a nest in your chimney and the combustion gases created by burning the fuel in your furnace are unable to escape. Another way CO could get into your house would be through a fireplace, whereby the gases, including CO, are unable to escape up the chimney because the damper is either closed, or the chimney has a blockage. It would be difficult to create a blockage in your chimney that appears natural. Likewise, it would be difficult to create a blockage in your hot water tank flue pipe that wouldn't appear like it was put there on purpose. The people who investigate this stuff are not stupid. A leaky gas pipe does not release CO. A leaky gas pipe leads to an explosion if there is an ignition source, like the pilot light on a hot water tank, or on a stove, or when the furnace ignites. CO is a byproduct of combustion.

Last time I checked, charcoal wasn't hard to get a hold of. You can buy it in pretty much any grocery store, or home improvement store. Same goes for small charcoal grills or chimney starters. All can be ordered off the Internet, also.

My mistake, I've never seen charcoal anywhere, I live in a fairly remote area and it's certainly not something I've noticed in stores I've been to, but in all fairness, never thought to look for either. Good to know - I'm not the brightest when it comes to internet ordering either but I'll look into that for sure. This is all very informative, thanks for the info.

From what I understand, the general price of that is out my budget unfortunately - I read on a separate post from 2019 they paid something like 300 dollars? I can't remember the exact price, please correct me if I'm wrong.

$117 for charcoal? Is that what you're referring to? A bag of charcoal here in the states is like $8.00 or $9.00.
