Does anyone here enjoy horror games?

I generally don't like horror games.

I sometimes like watching someone play horror games, but I don't necessarily like playing them myself.
Mainly because this type of game doesn't give me satisfaction.

However, I like games with a heavy, dark, depressing, etc. atmosphere.

I don't know if I can call it horror, but a few days ago I found a game: "fear and hunger".
I like it because it has a dark atmosphere and is controversial.
It's a pity that there are so few games like that.

I've been meaning to play f&h 1 and 2. They have unconventional gameplay. I'm too much of a coward to play most horror games, but somehow I've managed to complete SOMA and a couple of Resident Evil games.

Resident Evil is a cool game.
I've never played it, but I really enjoyed watching other people play it.

Fear And Hunger is a really interesting game.
It's hard because you can die easily. Actually, death is part of the game.
It's not even afraid of topics like pedophilia.

I like games that don't attack with cheap Jump scares but create a dark atmosphere.

Have you heard of SOMA?

You might enjoy it, there are very few "jump scares" if you can even call them that. It's very atmospheric and focuses on the narrative more than trying to score scare points on you. I think most people on this forum would like it because of its themes. If you haven't played it, I would steer clear from spoilers.

I think I've heard of it, but I don't know anything about it.
The graphics are a bit like Dead Space.
The atmosphere seems cool.

the experience of horror games is only fun w/ headphones and being surrounded by darkness lmao

Sure, should have made a more general horror thread, maybe. Anything goes.

Same but my love for the aesthetic and world of Alien can even overcome my anxiety for the genre.

Oh yeah! I played SOMA it was pretty good.

And to the OP

My fave horror game is Outlast the first one and Outlast Whistleblower.

I replayed Outlast sooo many times.

I played with my friends Until Dawn, Man of Medan, House of Ashes and The devil in me.
It was pretty much fun but we often could not finish them.

I love horror games! My favorites are probably the Resident Evil series and the first Outlast game & DLC. Was not a huge fan of Outlast II. I also like multiplayer horror games like Dead by Daylight and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game. Phasmophobia is good, too, but most people have kind of moved on from it by now.

Probably the original Dead Space? Not much bad to say about it really. Of course the obvious Resident Evil 2002 and Silent Hill 2 as well

+1 for Alien isolation, used to love playing that on PC.

I know it's not really a horror game as such but my first playthrough of Subnautica felt pretty creepy!

Yes. I love FNAF, Amnesia, SOMA, Fatal Frame and many of the games Markiplier plays. I find his funny / dark combo soothing. I also liked GT Live's let's plays because I love solving mysteries most but since Mat is going away I'll probably stop watching unfortunately...

Even Subnautica scared me. Not very good with horror...

A friend of mine has a relation in the gaming industry and they were telling me how the Alien in one of the 'Alien' games uses AI to learn how the player plays to catch them out. Even that description scared me!
