Hopeless but still got SI

When life proves to be so hopeless why do I still have a survival instinct?

Because unfortunately that is the purpose of SI, to keep going no matter what.

I am in your predicament. My behavior over the past year of suicidal planning has been giving me doubts into whether I'll actually be able to do it or not but maybe things will have to get even more desperate first (i.e. eviction, etc) for me to be confident that I can go through with it. To commit violence upon oneself is an unnatural act, after all.
