I took 20mg of melatonin earlier and only slept for 30 minutes. This is ridiculous. I remember my doctor prescribed me Seroquel earlier this year to try and help me sleep. I took 150mg total because my prescription didn't do anything, she lectured me on how I could have "hurt myself" lol. I just seem tolerant to so many things.

I would be worried that I'm having a super long mixed episode or something, but I've been tolerant to things like this my whole life. A psychiatrist tried prescribing me Ambien a few years ago, but I didn't feel comfortable taking it. Now I'm wondering if I should have tried it.

i'm ridiculously sleep deprived, so i've been stuck in a cycle of stay up past dawn, pass out and sleep half the day away, and repeat. still takes me at least half an hour to actually fall asleep though, no clue how some people can just close their eyes and bam, they're asleep lol

have you tried using any white noise or listening to music to get more comfortable/relaxed? there's a bunch of apps you can use to create your own soundscape with rain noises, other weather, pet snoring, etc (:

or, if you find any shows particularly boring, try watching those while in bed :p

Those people must have... looks at writing scrawled on hand inner peace? lol. I dunno how they fall asleep so quickly either. Sometimes I listen to music before bed. I daydream while I try to fall asleep when I can manage to stop ruminating. I have a fan on at night which kinda helps? The soundscape is a good idea though, thank you.

Sadly I only sleep with handfulls of unisom, Benadryl, and Ambien or benzos (I cannot recommend..I just become tolerant and need more and more and it's scary taking all that). I have been struggling with sleep my whole life. Seroquel gave me terrible side effects, melatonin does nothing. People claim weed is so great for sleep but that makes my PTSD worse. I feel like I sleep better during day vs night though.

Sorry if I sound trite, but getting a puppy changed everything for me. Before I had her I had so much trouble sleeping. Now, because of how much care and attention she requires, and how active she forces me to be every day, I sleep so well. Plus now I see her face when I wake up, which softens the blow of waking up and realizing I'm still alive.

Copious amounts of drugs, really. nothing else helps me since I've suffered from insomnia from a very young age. but not any drug does the trick. only benzos, gabapentinoids and weed seem to help.

melatonin does absolutely nothing for me and drugs like quetiapine are pure poison to my body.

I don't have trouble sleeping so I don't think I can help you... I mean, it does take some time until I fall asleep, but at night at least I slept from 2 am to 9/10 am. Not the healthiest schedule, but I manage. Symptoms of depression includes sleeping too much or too little, right? I fall into the too much category. I hope you'll find a solution that helps soon.

I've been lucky that I've never had sleep disorders. Sleep disorders are fairly common though, even mild ones.

I am lucky to sleep but only because I am so exhausted from all my physical pain. I'd expect it to keep me awake but no. When I do have trouble sleeping amitriptyline usually makes me drowsy enough to fall asleep.

Not so well at the moment, because I am going through withdrawal syndrome from my meds, and insomnia is one of the side effects.

But usually I try never to sleep during the day time, no matter how tired I may be. I also set the alarm clock every morning (even during the weekends when I don't have to work), so that I don't sleep in.

Keeping a rhythm and a somewhat regular sleep routine gives me an illusion of sanity and normality.

I have to take Zopiclone for sleep. Mirtazipine too. I've had Chronic sleep onset insomnia for 22 years. I really empathise with you mate. Sleep deprivation is absolute hell and I swear it contributed to my BPD. I also take CBD oil and Bach's Flower remedy during the day and my own herbal tea concoction before bed. As well as Valerian tea as well. I've been on everything, Benzos, Trazadone, nasty Quetiapine, melatonin ( which didn't work) you name it, I've been on it. You can always shoot me a PM if you need some advice from a hardcore insomniac such as myself. Hugs to you

Honest answer: I don't really know.

I moved to this house a year ago, against my will. I was already sleeping very little, but after the move my sleep reduced to less than one hour a night for six months or so.
Part medical issues (having to pee every 30 minutes plus diahoria due to medication to treat bowel impaction) and part anxiety (I'd spend all night shaking).
I guess I started to try and listen to my body and mind too.
I gradually lessened the medication I was takingand improved my diet. I started taking CBD oil. I'd previously been on sedatives but that's a hiding to nothing and just makes things worse, plus I needed something that would relax me without sedating me, as I still needed to pee in the night.
I slept in bits, because eventually, you sleep, your body forces you to. Not enough to be healthy, but enough to survive. I tried to really listen to what I needed and took what rest I could and just dealt with the issues that chronic lack of sleep brings as best I could.
Eventually, I slept more. Sometimes I even get a full night, which is a miracle and a blessing when you understand what it's like to have less than an hour a night for months on end.
So I can't give a magic answer, sorry. Drugs simply do not help in the long term, they always make things worse due to tolerance effects. Trying to listen to my body's needs, not expect to much and accept my reality as best I could, was the only thing I was left with in the end.

I used to take Mirtazapine, I swear it has the strength to knock out a bull elephant. But the effects wore off with time and now I'm back to surviving on minimal sleep.

Its so frustrating that my dreams are the only place where I feel content but my body makes sure to get as little as possible. Its especially hard to get to sleep in the middle of summer.

Recently I have a really hard time to fall asleep and I wake up in the middle of the nights. Dunno why is that, I tend to think a lot at night but even if I manage to silence my mind I still can't fall asleep. When I drink alcohol I fall asleep much more easier and sleep better.

Some nights I sleep easily, while other nights it takes tremendous effort to sleep. I don't take any medications or supplements to aid in sleeping, I just drift off. I am a light sleeper though, and could easily wake up unless very very exhausted in which case I may just sleep through alarms and what not.
