Amazing amount of sheer propaganda coming out of Hollywood these days. Hollywood is really going down hill. Do you remember when anime was unpopular and fringe? Now its mainstream. Squid Games was an instant success because people would rather watch South Korean games than rehashed terrible remakes. Look at all the entertainment coming out of Bollywood & Korea today.

I've lived and worked in Beverly Hills and Hollywood Hills. After settling down in LA and getting into the investment arena, after the first project I sold, I went from that into movies, raising money for independent films.

What is old is new, and what is new is old.

The only aspect that I would also mention is the price of going to the movies now days, YIKES! 2 tickets, popcorn and soda will run a person, where I live between 50 and 75 dollars (USD) Too much for my budget.

It's absolutely ridiculous.
Spending money on recreation in the US - your dollar doesn't go as far as overseas. All I can say is hopefully try to geo-arbitrage your income. Bumbershoot used to cost $20 a ticket, last I checked it's a few hundred at least. Common wages compared to price inflation have really stagnated especially in the last two years.

Spending $50 on poker can be like spending $50 on a four hour movie. I can lose $100 in a matter of minutes at blackjack even following the stats. Contrast to the $50 poker tournament my friend & I played the other day at a local card room for 2 hours before he busted out. He then moved to a cash game, bought in for $400, had his ups and downs but and played for another 90 minutes and when it was all said and done was down $12. So nearly 4 hours of play cost him $62, big deal. Fortunately, I made the final table in the tournament and cashed out for $100 – so counting my $50 tournament buy in it was net/net almost a breakeven (if you are counting us as a pair).

Simple things can keep me happy. Working out, thats free. I can go for a run. Eating Chipolete just as an example its $10 a burrito and it's delicious but taco trucks can be better and cheaper. Reading a book. I love reading. Books are cheap. You could spend dozen of hours on a book and pay $1 for it. Get it used. (Or torrent for free 🤫). I play old video games that cost me like $10. That's literally all I would need... Maybe a nice espresso once in a while… ☕
Don't get me wrong, I have other hobbies and passions.

I love film and television media. It can be incredible so, it's sad to think it's in decline. How much of it is simply about money do you think? I once heard somewhere that companies weren't even that bothered about the quality of the film. Just balancing the books.

There must still be passionate directors out there though. I'm in the Arts industry. We are generally a very driven group of people. I wonder what would make it great again.

I think "reality shows" were a threshold crossed that accelerated the at-the-time gradual decline. Then everything went to streaming and youtubers started getting as many views as some streaming shows. There probably won't be as much of a budget for movies or tv shows for a while since the low budget option is currently popular. I have heard that a lot of people have been let go in the movie/tv industry as a result.
