The former "rate your suicidal thoughts thread was deleted after the NYT story. I never understood why exactly. Maybe it can cause a bad press. But I think there are way more controversial threads than this.
I am bipolar and my psychiatrist recommended me a mood diary. I make it now for roundabout 1,5 years. It helps me to assess in which state my mood currently is. This helps to reflect about my mind and which steps are now important (for example emergency medication). I try to be self-conscious. In general this forum is a great help for me when I get feedback if I sound for example paranoid. In the past this really helped me to cope and to stay somewhat stable.
For me the thread in the title is like a mood diary for me. A benefit of such a mood diary is the fact that it shows you it can get better. That there are nuances how you feel. I am now suicidal for roundabout a decade. (with little breaks) It helps to see that my suicidality can decrease over time. I know it will likely not vanish and accompany me. But this is something that helps me to stay alive at least for the moment.
