Some of the original Heaven's Gate members that survived the first attempt seem to be planning to "exit" again based on posts from their blog:

I was looking on wikipedia and apparently they used phenobarbital the first time around:

The reason this worked the first time is because it was all planned privately- there is no way this will work the seco9nd time if they include random members of the public. If this is a realo thing police will send in someone undercover and prevent this almost certainly. The Heaven's Gate members are not depressed people, they just believe this story about aliens in the afteroife, etc. There is no way that any group suicide will ever work if it is openly published on this site, this is too heavily watched for this to ever work. Sometimes partner situations work, I know of two partners who ctb'd in the late fall from this site- a young couple who met here for whom life had gone badly.

I stumbled upon the group around 4 years ago, and at that time I had already been looking into more esoteric Christianity and questioning things. When I began reading the Heaven's Gate book and watched the initiation tapes, I just knew I'd found the answer to my seeking.

I envy people who could get to that stage of "faith" such that it frees them from this world. They are lucky.

It seems irrational to me but I won't stop them. Atheists should be able to say that you are free to believe what you want to believe as long as it doesn't harm others.

They didn't force anyone to be with them. Unlike jihad bomber or school shooter, these heaven's gate deserve respect. At worst, they did brainwashed each other, it can only be seen as an alarm that religious dogmas can be fatal, anyone shouldn't be teaching any religion in school.

Those who use suicide as a weapon (for profits, deception, killing...) are making things difficult for people who want to use suicide as defense (against sufferings, hopelessness....)
