I feel my own pain and everyone else's
I desperately want to leave but I can't because of my family
and no one likes or loves you more for having empathy
I can't see any benefit to it but I have too much empathy to want to give up having empathy if that makes sense lol

While having empathy opens you up to sharing some of the pain experienced by others, not having empathy makes you a lesser human.

Your cost might seem high at times. Imagine being the selfish and soulless person only trying to get what they want, regardless of others.

Yeah, maybe let's not say shit like this considering the fact that this type of rhetoric ties into ableism. A lot of people have trouble with feeling empathy as a result of disorders, such as autism or ASPD. Someone who may have issues with empathy, whether that it be cognitive empathy, affective empathy, or both, can still exercise compassion. Dare I say, compassion is arguably a little bit better than empathy. When we act out in empathy it's typically because it is self-focused. With empathy, the suffering of others causes us to feel distressed (emotion-sharing), thus leading us to help them to in order to relieve our own suffering. With compassion, on the other hand, we are acting out of internally generated feelings of benevolence towards others. Compassion is other-focused, not self-focused.

One thing I've realized is that in the kinda world that we live in, having empathy is a handicap. We are more prone to being taken advantage of by others. But we still gotta be empathetic and hope to try n see the best in other people. I find that keeping your circle small helps.

I like those with more empathy. I wish humanity overall were kind and empathetic but unfortunately they aren't. Being empathetic sucks in this world since hardly anybody is empathetic but that just makes me appreciate those who are empathetic so much more. Humanity as a whole sucks but then I see that a few people in this world care a lot about others (not just other humans but all sentient life in general) and it's just so refreshing to see. Though many people, even on here, would probably think that I'm insane based on what I consider to be the most empathetic position... that position being to want to end all sentient life if given the power to. A few people in this world see that the system is unfair for having winners and losers so instead they either want a system where everybody wins or where the system isn't played by anything at all. I guess a few humans are angelic and I consider you to be close to being angelic so, honestly, thank you

Yes they do. On here almost everyone has empathy toward the problems and afflictions of others. It is the strength of this site.

To be more precise :
Recent studies seems to show that this idea of lacking empathy come from a lack of cognitive empathy but not affective empathy.

Cognitive empathy is one that require acute social skill (eg. reading between the lines, having a precise idea of how ), something that autist tends to struggle whit during their lives.
A good example of this would be :
"Do you like my looks ?"

Affective empathy is more of the empathy people think about, meaning the abilty to relate to other emotion, on the condition that emotion is visible.
