Is there anybody else whose life has been ruined by medical malpractice, misdiagnosis etc., and as a result you want to CTB?

My life has been ruined because of a spinal disease called Scheuermann's disease. It needs to be caught & treated early, but it is extremely misunderstood among physicians who regularly fail to diagnose it correctly. My doctor told me "it was nothing, just tense muscles" which led me to worthless life in chronic pain. Now she denies all responsibility and wants to sue me because I shared my experience on the Internet.

Yes, constantly. And yes, their malpractice and misdiagnoses are a large part of why I've given up; because of them I've refused to seek any kind of help, and I've dropped out of the 'system' completely.

Indirectly yes. I believe I would be much healthier if I lived in the US because of restrictions of medicine here.
I know US gets a lot of criticism but it seems people always seem to be able to get the drugs they need legally.

Partially, yes. I'll have to be on SSRIs for the rest of my life because I cannot function without them.

Psychiatry feels more like ritual than science. I go to the witchdoctor for my demons. He gives me pills that I don't understand. I take them and they don't work. I don't care how much evidence is behind it, I don't care what the studies say, antidepressants don't work for me. They flatten me out and rob me of intense experiences. I would rather have joy and sorrow in my life than some benign and hard to define "wellness" that is really just me being on drugs all the time.

I have had much better luck with psychedelics and other mind-altering substances than anything the pharmaceutical companies would deign to push down my throat for a hefty price. My local drug dealer is a more effective practitioner than any psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner I have ever had, or will have. As long as the industry--and make no mistake, it is an industry--does not research and fund treatments that cannot easily be patented and monetized (like psychedelics), psychiatry will be a fundamentally misguided attempt at human betterment that succeeds primarily in one aspect: enriching everyone involved except the patient.

I think psychiatry is a scam. I would have avoided antidepressants and stayed far away from them in every way. I feel it's apart of what ruined my life

Yes. Well doctors have murdered two loved ones with toxic drugs. My cousin was paralyzed by a flu shot. And they failed to diagnose me or help me in any way with my lyme disease, vaccine injury and gallbladder disease. I had to diagnose and treat myself. I even had a doctor order an ultrasound of my gallbladde. They told me I had no gall stones and then I started passing gall stones a few months later as I was doing a colon cleanse. A naturopathic doctor told me I have Lyme and I got the Igenix test to confirm. It's been 20 years of chronic illness for me with no end in sight. A different naturopathic doctor helped me with chronic pain and insomnia. I'm still dealing with autoimmune stuff like food allergies…many food allergies. I get hives, eczema, horrible fatigue, nausea, heartburn and vomiting when I eat foods I'm allergic to. I can hardly eat anything.

The thing is if you are functioning better. I'm not sure what medications you are taking, but do they help with your mood and ability to function in a daily basis? If so, you get solely blame the psychiatrist.

Millions of drugs have side effects. Some people don't experience any while others do. Sometimes they are transient. So, you mentioned you have gained weight secondary to increased appetite. It is very well known that some psychiatric medications may cause weight gain and, those that do, are often the antipsychotics. Regular SSRI and SNRIs are relatively non weight gaining. Some, Wellbutrin for example, generally is weight neutral and may even decrease weight because it's molecular structure is similar to amphetamines. On the other hand, medications such as mirtazapine may cause weight gain however some people may never experience this. Since everybody's bodies are different, they will react differently from one person to the next. This makes it difficult to say, with certainty, that a person will or will not gain weight. But, some medications are definitely more likely to cause weight gain compared others.

i guess if you have questions or concerns about the medication (s) you feel are causing weight gain is to talk to your psychiatrist. For example, if your mood is very much stable on your current dose of medication, then can it be decreased, as a trial, to see if you can function just as well, or even better? So, if you are on prozac 60 mg daily and you're pretty stable moof wise then maybe ask your psych if you could taper down to 50 or 40mg per day and keep a diary of your mood and ability to function in society. I don't know what med or meds you are taking, but a stepwise change can help. Another example: if you're in therapy and have a good relationship with your therapist and your mood is stable, then a trial of reducing your medication may be warranted.

All drugs... Ibuprofen, insulin, levothyroxine, atenolol, etc all have possible side effects. It just depends if your experience then or not. Even with side effects, are they tolerable or not? If it is functioning well for an individual and the SE are tolerable then no need to change. Medication management is not easy. You may unfortunately have a psychiatrist who doesn't listen to your concerns and just keeps you on them despite SE which are unacceptable to you. If the medication keeps you stable then you have to decide whether to maintain it or ask to lower the dose because if the of the SE. If this occurs and you can still function well then maybe you will have s decrease in appetite. Your doctor could also cross taper your med with another. For example , decrease your prozac dose while starting you on a new medication such as Wellbutrin. It's truly an art form but something the psych doctor has to be involved involved in. What an I trying to say is that there are good psychiatrists and bad ones. Finding a good one is difficult but when you do, you should have this discussion about your meds and increased appetite.

i hope your doctor is someone with whom you have a good relationship with and one who will take time to listen to your concerns. There are alternatives unless you've tried most of them and failed to improve your mood. This also happens with diabetics and metformin. Sometimes, some individuals with type 2 diabetes have horrible abdominal pain and diarrhea with use of metformin even though it here control their blood glucose. However the pain and diarrhea may be intolerable to them. So the patient should discuss this with their doctor and see if there are any alternative diabetic medication which had less likelihood of causing these adverse side effects.

so sometimes it just the doctor who may be too rigid in their ways to change a patient's medication. Sometimes, it may be that the patient has tried almost every drug out there but had failed to keep their mood stable and their current med is the only thing which works. There are many factors to consider when choosing a medication for s patient and balancing the pros and cons can be difficult.

not sure if that helped you any but I hope so.

I gave up as well. It's not worth even 10 minutes of my time. They are worthless.
