I live in Germany the media covers it intensely.

I try to sum it up. Young people had a New Year's party in a bar. Probably many affluent people were there because it is quite expensive there. The staff of the bar served bottles of alcohol with pyrotechnics to the tables. There are videos of that on the internet. You can find them on X (Twitter). I searched for footage online. And thus far I have not found gore. But the ceiling caught fire (probably wrong material). And then a large fire broke out with flashovers and toxic gases. There are videos online how some people film the flames. And don't take it serious. The staff members try to stop the flames. They are probably all dead. The people who filmed inside the bar instead of running for their lives are very likely dead. There are some videos of people who film while running away. And some people who had luck to escape the hell hole...well, the first thing they did is filming how the people inside die in the flames. You can only see the shadows. But there are so many cries for help.
However, who am I to judge. I also watched these videos. I am probably part of the problem.

I think though original sources can be very informative. This is why I will link some X posts. Some staff members survived though. Take my post with a grain of salt. I don't factcheck all of that. I am not extremely invested in the research of it. Accotding to a German news magazine. It is less likely something like that happens in Germany. In Germany there are strict regulations about the material of the ceiling of those bars. In Switzerland this is more up to local authorities. Usually, the people complain about Germany's and EU regulations but sometimes it can prevent catastrophes. Though, such tragedies also happen in our country from time to time.

A similar accident has already occurred in Brazil, leaving 242 people dead and 636 injured. The site also had safety flaws, and many died of asphyxiation.

The fact that the fire spread so quickly in a place lacking sufficient fire exits reminds me of the disaster that happened at The Station nightclub in Rhode Island a few decades ago. Same circumstance of faulty pyrotechnics. Scary, sad stuff. I wonder, did this building have sprinkler systems in place to go off in the case of a fire? Those seem like a must-have for any venue that's going to have open flames indoors.

One reason why a lot of countries (or within the USA a lot of States) ban fireworks and the like is because of this sort of stuff. Accidents happen even with the experts, but most people just don't need to have live fires in their control. People take stuff for granted, aren't prepared to handle accidents quickly, and have open fires around alcohol and other flammable things.

I know this isn't a time to just blame and pour guilt... but man, I hate when easily preventable things happen.

I honestly don't understand the obsession with fireworks and fire in general... like celebrating or whatever. Fire is an old invention, and once you're older than, say, 5 years old, it seems like the fascination ought to wear off and people wouldn't be waving dangerous flaming things around indiscriminately.

Celebrations that turn into death scenes are traumatic for anyone involved in them... and I hate that friends and families of all these people are going to have the tragedy to deal with the rest of their lives, and the lives lost for no good reason.
