to everyone on SS with a mental illness: have you ever tried to recover?
How do you define recovery? And if you tried it, did you see a professional such as a licensed counselor or psychiatrist at any point? Or was it more of a personal journey for you?
To me, recovery is making the conscious effort to live and lead a life that's fulfilling to you. It's been about 6 years for me and I've seen psychs in and out. I'm about to try meds soon, but otherwise I've tried almost everything except moving across the country and starting a new life, and doing drugs.
obviously if we're on SS we're suicidal and/or pro-choice. So do you guys feel that suicide can co-exist with your recovery? I'm pro-choice so I don't think it will ever fully escape my mind. But ideally, if I recover I wouldn't need to think about it so often.
