Im just super curious to know what happens.
When i was in middle school, a kid hung himself with a computer cord and there were tons of jokes about it, but no official statement was made by the school besides "heres a fucking hotline number we dont need bad press".
I was wondering if this was the same for others?

Same here. We got a speaker telling us that suicide was bad, and of course the hotline number. I think they only added the speaker because it was the district's third suicide in the past 2 years.

The person didn't ctb on the school site, but they did it on school time using train method. The next day they sent an email to everyone explaining what happened, giving the numbers, and saying that the counselling services would be open to anyone all day to talk. They made a temporary memorial for people to leave flowers and cards etc. but this was removed a few weeks after and nothing permenant was done

I had to deal with many attempted and actual suicides in my job 20 years ago. I was a prison officer.

I remember a few years back in school there was this student who apparently tried to od on Xanax. I'm not sure if it was true or not but the thing is a lot of people made jokes saying things like ''what an emo'' and others laughing while asking '' did he actually overdose''. He didn't die but I don't think he came back to school. I haven't seen or heard of him in years.

Kids can be so cruel! I hope that the student found a healthier environment to be in for his own sake and peace. I remember when it would be a trend in school to use 'kill yourself' or 'gay' as an insult, the effects this has on people as they get older can be a root contributor to mental health illnesses.

Please people, educate your kids with morals and manners!

Hello biggie, thankfully ''kill yourself'' is something I don't hear often. But I hear ''gay'' regularly. I hope parents now can help teach their kids manners.

An older kid I knew in school jumped off a bridge, he was 15 years old, a witness said he was arguing in the phone with his father he then smashed the phone and jumped off.
His family didn't seem to care that much, and his circle of friends quickly moved on.

5 people on the site I work at CTB'ed in the last 10 years.
Brief flutter of "I can't believe it, why didn't he say something?" Book of condolences made available to sign and say some platitudes.
Then replaced by some other seagulls 3 to 5 days later.
Forgotten 2 weeks after that.

A few years back a former coworker made a post on social media that he died of a broken heart. Everyone was like wtf and tried to get him to answer. Turns out after he posted that he shot himself in the heart.

I remember when I was in high school a guy who was 1 grade below me accidentally killed himself from that choking game (I forgot what it's called).

His girlfriend was in one of my classes and I remember seeing her cry in class over it. I think a few months after the tragedy she was attracted to me but I never had the balls to ask her out even though I thought she was really pretty.

Hello, once my classmate CTB; when I was going to school, my classmates saw a guy hanging on the tree, my religion teacher CTB, another time we were searching the guy who disappeared, he did not say he is going to CTB, just left the drawn picture where he is. And lots of other cases. But they never CTB at school or at work.

I find this outright shocking, actually. I'm a teacher and I can tell you that over here, suicides in schools are never covered up. Different schools do of course work in different ways, but closing the school for a day, holding a remembrance ceremony, and offering pupils councelling are very common. We even paid attention to a pupil who committed suicide a year after he had graduated. In another school in the region, a pupil committed sucide totally unexpectedly and under somewhat shocking circumstances, and it took quite a long time for that school to recover. This is one of the reasons, although not one of the most important ones, I hesitate to kill myself.

Yes first job I ever had out of school an employee jumped off the elevator shaft. I realized then this was to real. I knew why he did it. I was thinking I'd eventually commit suicide once I couldn't do this anymore

As a teacher I've lost both students and fellow teachers to suicide. The schools have never really done much; kept it quiet and had grief counselors on site for the kids who needed it, but never a full school assembly. The principal would encourage the teachers to have an open discussion during class if need be, but that was it. For some reason, it's sadder to me to see my former students kill themselves now after graduating and starting lives.

Last month a student from my school jumped off one of the buildings nearby and was successful. I've actually seen the dead body while I was going to the convenience store that day.

My former high school classmate hung himself last month as well. The news circled around our batch and my former high school.

At the age of about 8 years old I noticed horrible injuries on the neck of a classmate. He said that he tried to hang himself. Never questioned this anything further.

At my university library, someone jumped from up high and landed in the front lobby. I wasn't there personally, but I can only imagine how traumatic it must've been to witness it.

In 2nd grade a construction worker jumped from the roof of the adjacent building during our classes. Everybody said it was an accident but I just so had happened to look at him, because I was so bored. He looked down, took a deep sigh and deliberately jumped. Kinda hard to forget, even if I was only 3 days away from my 8th birthday.

The next two stories haven't happened on site, but they kinda show how poorly suicide is handled in Polish schools.

A good pal of mine ctb'd at the final year of highschool. To say that the school's reaction was brusque would be a massive understatement. The guy was pretty lost. He indulged in drugs with many sketchy people and never did well at school. He was somewhat of a maverick, but he had a beautiful soul. Ofc I won't claim that I fully understood him, since we actually haven't spoken much during his last year. After he hanged himself in the swamp, a couple of shitheads attended his funeral, blasted some cringey underground rap and drank a lot. Teachers haven't said much - they mainly cynically commented on how big of a shitshow the funeral service was. There were no mental health advises whatsoever. Everybody then just joked around and he was very quickly forgotten.

Some time later a girl from three grades down killed herself in the bathroom because she was bullied at school and came from a divided, nearly bankrupt family. I didn't know her, but her death was overshadowed by a car accident that happened two days before in which a way more popular and successful student had died. There was a very brief, like 5 minute long school assembly during which three students were forced to say that suicide ain't the answer for anything. The principal just stood there and kept looking at her watch. Then it was business as usual, and I literally eavesdropped on half of her class talking shit about her fashion choices and awkward behavior. Needless to say, it was pretty repulsive.

I am against ctb in public places because of the trauma it could cause on other people. And still they say suicide is selfish...
