I suffer from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome which is the highest ranking pain condition in medical history. My doctor, since he has no idea how to help me, wants me to go to cognitive behavioral therapy. But there is no one around me that does it. I don't know anything about it. And I don't know how it's going to help my pain. Even my shrink said she had no idea why he would send me there for pain. Because the doctors don't know how to help me besides writing me scripts for pain meds which just really all you can do for my situation, they're making me jump through all of these hoops so the insurance companies aren't on their asses and saying they're just providing pills. I have this condition in my ears, head, face neck, vaginal area and whatever other part of my body it decides to piss off. I'm just wondering if anyone has went and if they got anything out of it.

Most therapists do forms of CBT in my experience. I don't find it helpful, but most of the things I need therapy for aren't thought based. It does work for some people. This is oversimplifying, but the idea is changing your perception, reframing your thoughts. I'm not sure how it would help someone in your situation, but it probably wouldn't hurt to try.

I also don't understand how it would help pain. I would not believe them if they said the insurance companies are on their asses at all. That sounds like some bullshit. It seems like they are frustrated with what to do for your condition, but what would I know right?

It's nice to talk to someone that sees it the way I do. But yes it's true. For the last year due to all the opiate overdoses the FDA and the CDC are putting a lot of pressure on the doctors to take people off of their pain needs or get them down to a very low dosage. Many people who are on high dosages of pain meds and have went to pick them up at the pharmacy have been denied them by the insurance company. It's getting very difficult and they said that if they just keep prescribing me drugs they can go to jail. I don't believe everything they say. And I am sure that they are sick of me since they can't treat me and are trying to slowly push me out of the practice. I'm being blackmailed by doctor to go to an ENT or I won't be allowed to go there anymore.

Yes, more than once but unfortunately it wasn't a good fit for me. That doesn't mean it has been good for others.

Do you feel your doctor is taking your medical condition seriously ? It sounds to me like your doctor believes it to be psychosomatic or "all in your head", otherwise I see no reason why your doctor would suggest CBT. Don't hesitate to see another doctor if you feel you aren't taken seriously. I guess it's likely you've already seen many doctors so I'm sorry if my advice is useless.

Ineffective when applied to deep, clinical depression. In light to moderated depressives, it's found to be more effective. It's a toss up for me personally. I'm trying that eye movement therapy that is popular with people who have PTSD. EMDR. Dunno. I find the best temporary thing is for me to get up early in morning, go for a walk to nearby park and sit and commune with the honeybees, hummingbirds, flowers, pigeons, and all the other flora and fauna. Then I walk back home and get worries sick abt the state of the world, others' welfare (e.g., Ukrainians, victims of crime), and my own woes. But for a brief interlude, I offer it all to the cosmos.

I also love looking at the vast number of stars and contemplating the gazillions of galaxies and suns and how truly insignificant we are in the known universe. That's my idea of being awestruck. The cosmos are so wondrous. I contemplate the infinitude (physical) of the known universe and where my issues fit in. Not to mention whackjob/grown (groan) toddler Kanye West. Humans and their schizo-based deistic beliefs have become as viruses. I don't think civilization as we know it will even be here in thirty to forty years. No way.
