As a kid, I remember having to do a project in school on who our role model was and I just made one up because I've never looked up to anyone in that way. I've always felt very disconnected from everyone. Maybe this is a reason why I'm like how I am now. No one to grow from and be inspired by.

Does anyone else relate?

I did a similar thing when I was a kid, and had to make someone up.

I have always understood that every human is flawed and idolizing people is a bad idea, because they will inevitably disappoint you in some way. No one can ever live up to all that comes with being idolized.

Yep, very relatable. No role model, no inspiration, no goals in life.

The exact same thing happened to me. I just picked a comedian from tv and talked shit about him for ten minutes.

I've never been inspired by a person, I think that's a really strange way to find motivation. Obviously you need your family to be decent role models because they're leading by example of how you should behave, they're a moral rudder, but.. beyond that it just feels odd, as if you don't know what to do with your life unless someone you like is doing it.

Never had one myself, either.

Ironically, a friend just told me I'm an incredible role model a few moments ago.

I do not think I have had one. There is nobody I have looked up to, or wanted to be like. I cannot relate to people. I think it is because I am not meant for this world and there is nothing that I have wanted from this life. Even when I was young, I did not want to be alive.

I looked up to my older sister when I was younger. She is 8 years older than me. I wouldn't call her a role model though. She has mental health issues which weren't easy to pick up, when I was young & naive.

A lot of famous people I looked up to are either dead or suffer with depression.

Not me. I remember when I tried, I was disappointed. What helped me for years were phrases from great thinkers.

Never had a role model. Never had a male mentor of any sort to guide me. I'm mentally stunted from that, and it will never get better.

having to do a project in school on who our role model was
In French class my teacher once picked me to talk for about 2 minutes so she can give me a mark. The topic she gave me was "a person I admire" and despite that I've always been good at French I thought about it for a while, then slowly stuttered "I admire Steve Irwin. He as worked with animals." and that was literally it. I couldn't say more because I never looked up on somebody, never admired anyone.

Honestly, schools should just stop asking this dumb question. Everywhere you are being told to love yourself the way you are and never compare yourself to others, but then everyone also expects you to cheer for idols you crave to copy. Bullshit.

I feel you. I wish my father wasn't a drunk who only cared about himself and teached his only male son how to get things in life, because ultimately he knew how to do it.
