I've noticed my mood improving in recent weeks after my psychiatrist increased my dose of anti-depressants. My main problems now are anxiety related. I'm constantly tense.

Psychiatrists are hesitant to prescribe anti-anxiety medication in Australia. Has anyone had serious anxiety-related problems and had them adequately treated?

Hurrah your meds are helping - happy for you!

For anxiety:

weed is helpful for lots of people - and non-medicine related. Benzos can help, but addictive/withdrawals. They stopped working on me - they worked for me maybe 3 times - and when they worked, it was amazing. I would rather be on weed long term than Benzos long term. Weed also helps me sleep when I can't. I LOVE weed. I just haven't had good weed for a few weeks, but hopefully getting that sorted asap.

Lyrica - is probably worse than Benzos, but they are prescribing it for things like panic disorder. It also has withdrawals/side effects, but better than panic probs.

Propanolol - I've never tried it as I have asthma, but can be helpful.

That's everything off the top of my head.

If by adequately, you mean prescribed benzos, yes I was. And I'm in Australia. I've been on Valium, Serepax, Rivotril/Paxam and Ativan. I don't take them anymore. I found I just became tolerant to them and they don't work anymore. The withdrawals if you run out are absolutely hellish. Can't even begin to describe what it's like. My anxiety is okay now I think because I've been feeling better moodwise. Up till the last couple of days anyway. My fluoxetine was increased recently and I've been working out 4x a week that might help too.

Haha nope. When I was younger I used to think the only treatment for my anxiety and intense phobias were exposure to the things that scared me so I decided to avoid any sort of therapy for my anxiety specifically.

Now my anxiety includes being afraid that taking any of this type of medication would completely change me as a person. I already saw it happen to my sister when she started taking them. They help her not want to cut herself anymore but she traded that off for removing her empathy. She's now far less patient and easily angered by other people's faults without ever taking anything into consideration. I don't know if that would happen to me but I certainly don't want to find out.

Yes, I have. But it takes hard work which most people aren't up for.
