I had a counselor ask me what I thought happiness looked like to me. After a lot of thought I really didn't know how to answer. My life has unstable for as long that I honestly don't know remember being truly happy for any amount of time. So I'd like to ask......

What would happiness look like you?

For me, happiness is the absence of any suffering and pleasure. Complete nothingness

I also have a lot of trouble answering when professionals ask me about happiness and how I see it.

I guess I see it as a peaceful moment, on a sunny day, not too cold not too hot, hearing the birds singing.

When I am asked this, I find myself afraid to answer because I know the truth all too well. I can picture it in my head, perfectly, but I know it will never happen for me. To me love and companionship is the only thing truly worth living for. I am completely fucking doomed

No pressures, no worries about careers, money, the future, the state of the world. Days spent doing fulfilling things that I want to do, surrounded by people and animals who I care about and who care about me.

So utter fantasy.

When things align and I have a moment of flow. The flow state brings me happiness, or when I have a moment of true connection with another person.

I'm so numb I am not sure what happiness is. I guess to me it's getting through each day while staying calm. Maybe it's even cracking a joke here and there.

I totally understand. I guess ever the small stuff should count though.
I have no idea what happiness is. Good thread!
I try to ask questions that require some thought and other people opinions can help. I'm totally with you though....I have no idea either.
I thought more about this after I posted and I guess I answered my own question when saying.... Having some sort of stability would be happiness for me.

For a dozen years all I was working towards was "calm". My hope rested in a belief that once things were calm then life would get better.
Now I have calm, and I lost everything else that struggled for years to hold onto. "Happiness"? No such state of being for me.

Feeling that you belong, being carefree and playful, joking with your friends, holding the had of a person that loves you.

All we have is temporary passings of emotion, attachment to an emotion like happiness, viewing it as an achievement or an object to possess.

You will either suffer while you don't have it or suffer because you will lose it. Happiness is the gap between two ends of suffering.

You have to let go of all attachment to escape suffering and CTB is how I view that, Buddhists have the same answer but imo they just come up with a bunch of metaphysical mumbo jumbo to say CTB isn't the answer.
