Since the Paleolithic, humans have pursued happiness but desires are infinite, human relationships are hijacked by that mania of appropriating the more things, the better (Zygmunt Bauman), why is it so difficult to be happy if everywhere they are offering us the way to happiness, travel, courses, cars, makeup, neo-therapies, etc.? The list does not end, happiness is the evil for which there are more medicines, something that should be good but on second thought, if there are so many medicines it is because the vast majority do not work, how is it that the search for happiness of million goes
to succeed if, to begin with, many do not know how to define what happiness is or at least what they consider happiness ?; It is not a secret that for the whole world there is little or no attention to mental health, today's regime is the society of fatigue, if you are unhappy but you are generating money or you are working in a good place, you are sent the message that you are doing it well, that the success of life is to produce more and more, that the more you suffer, the more you tire, the less you sleep and the more you sacrifice, you are more valuable, you are as many people say to someone in life the wrong and so destructive idea of that happiness is something that you must earn from the world but not something that we build inside ourselves, although it must be said, this idea is understandable; Happiness is great but if there is no food, if there is no medicine, there is not even life, this is the mantra of the generations that have lived through economic crises and now also the entire crisis derived from the pandemic, however this mantra does not solve, does it serve us as an ointment? no! Does it give you peace of mind? no, does it give peace, why not? Does it make us feel justified?
To not feel happy after all, happiness is another way to show that we are someone in life, it is part of the fight for status, not only do we have to show that we are in a five-star resort or that we are training, or the new iphone, we also have to show how happy we are with all these things, many let others shape their idea of what it is and what it is like to be happy for a very logical question: on the internet, the media and everywhere they abound people who seem to know the formula for easy happiness, buy something, get something, do something, see something, this is the formula for happiness (depending on who you ask) and there is interest in telling us how to be happy, after Everything leaves a lot of money, in other words the first step so that happiness is not such a difficult task is to define the values with which we were living.
Do we mean when we say that we only need to be free to be happy? What do we consider success? What do we think is disgrace or discredit? How individualistic and independent do we want to be from the world or from the people around us?
As Bauman says: "In today's world all ideas of happiness end up in a store", precisely because it is not so much schools or families that create the values of more and more people but the economic demands and the media apparatus world where advertising plays a fundamental role thus creating what many have without realizing the so-called ethics of the consumer, thus the concept of freedom is confused with being able to buy many things and not so much with being able to sleep and wake up at the time they want; The concept of success is that there is an award or recognition that can be proven but not something that we have achieved and that only matters to us on a personal or intimate level; the concept of individuality is not asking for anything from anyone and not expecting anything from anyone instead of being independent but capable of cooperating, negotiating, trusting or even sharing with others; And so we could continue to examine a myriad of values distorted by the ethics of consumption where the important thing is not even that we reproduce or the formation of interpersonal or social ties, but consumerism.
