Do you mean lying down face first? It's just it can be done both ways technically.

That's how I was picturing it, yes. I don't know?

I can only really find this abstract for a medical article: "Hanging is still the most common suicide method among men and women, even in high age groups. There are many variations of hanging. As compared to the body weight, only a relatively small force is necessary to obstruct the carotid arteries. In this way hanging in a sitting, kneeling or even lying position is possible. Such an exceptional case is presented here. A 99-year-old, multi-morbid man (47 kg, 159 cm) was found lying strangled in his hospital bed. The ligature used was a stiff spiral cable for remote control of the bed, which was directly attached to the wall behind its head end. The position allowed compression of the neck vessels, which resulted in marked congestion of the head, numerous petechial and confluent haemorrhages in the facial skin as well as blood loss from both ear canals. In the cervical soft tissue above the ligature, bleeding into the muscles and connective tissue as well as multiple haemorrhages in the tongue were found. Reconstruction at scene showed that suicide was possible. In such unusual cases, extensive police investigations, forensic autopsy and reconstruction of the course of events to prove feasibility are essential."

Wow, 99, that's one late suicide. The problem is we don't know what he was on and of course his age obviously meant he must have been very fragile anyway. I did read about one person on this forum who posted a while back about adopting such a position, but I think they were banned, so not sure if they succeeded. They seemed confident about it. I suppose anyone position is made better by going into it quick, which is of course mentally more difficult. I can imagine that the body would find it harder to recover from such a position though, as well as being more comfortable.
Obviously bodyweight wouldn't play much of a factor at all. So it might require a little more fortune when it comes to compression.

Yeah, it's pretty old. I saw a post saying kneeling position didn't work, but the only possible ligature points I have are potentially doorknob but I don't think it'll hold and then potentially bedpost. I just don't really have enough info about how to execute it. It feels pretty horrible when I try to experiment.

Death never came easy as they say. People have been found in every position possible, so it happens, but obviously some are more likely to be successful or easier to execute as it were. With doorknobs, if the pressure is going up and over the door, it'll reinforce it a little I'd presume. They way I see it, if millions have accomplished that method with a lot less knowledge and material then it all comes down to how much someone wants it and their courage in the moment. I think the saying ignorance is bliss applies. They didn't know what was to come, unfortunately most of us do now.
