I've seen two ways of hanging.

Spoiler alert : NSFW

One is with a knot on the front like this : https://watchpeopledie.tv/h/suicide/post/313788/woman-hangs-herself-with-a-scarfPeople lay their head backward

Second one is with the knot on the back like this :

I was wondering does it change anything ? It seems having the knot on the front and laying your head backward is easier ?

You can be sure that you pass out within 5 to 15 seconds if the knot is in the back, because it puts the maximum pressure on the carotid arteries which are in the front of the neck. If the knot is in the front of the neck the pressure on the carotids is much lower but it works in most cases because the pressure required to close the carotids is very low.

The position of the knot makes a huge difference in the outcome.
In drop hanging, knot at the front works better because the goal is to break the C2 vertebra. This placement hits the spinal cord directly instead of being cushioned by muscles and cartilage, making it easier to break.
For full or partial suspension, the knot has to be at the back. If it isn't, the spine can get in the way and stop the knot from blocking the carotid arteries properly, which can cause a slower and far more painful death.

I don't think the one in the front is recommended at all. I've read of cases where people had CTB'ed in an excrutiating manner as the carotids weren't blocked properly. They eventually died of cardiac arrest after being suspended for a long time. The one at the back seems quick. I've also seen it being placed at the side of the neck. Type of knot matters as well. I've seen discussions online mentioning the slip knot as the best suited in case of partial as well as full suspension.

In a video, the knot was on the side, and the other side wasn't compressed. How did they die? Does the pressure reach through the neck?

If the knot is at the back, the carotid arteries won't be compressed.
