I was also new to firearms when I decided on this method. I got a 9mm also and when I attempted the gun never fired, just clicked. I tried it twice and nothing happened. Imagine how freaked out I was! I went back to the shop and they showed me how to use it. I didn't pull hard enough on the slide in order to load a bullet so I was basically dry firing. If you can I recommend a beginner training if you can find one. I did and it helps a lot. It's only an hour and you learn how to take it apart and how to load it and shoot it it properly.
Well, I'm not sure whether the training is needed if all i have to do is one shot. The gun shoots well and I know how to load it, so that's it I guess.

Yah as long as you know what you're doing you're good to go. Idiots like me though it helped out

I did the research a long time ago. The numbers are hard to find. Took a lot of looking. I had the findings bookmarked. I deleted them when I realized it is not a reliable enough method. I also can't buy a gun anymore because I bought N and got caught and flagged by Homeland Security for importation. Data showed the caliber of bullet matters. Data showed the location of entry mattered. Data showed that the times that the bullet went thru the left and right sides of the brain increased mortality. The highest percentages were when the bullet hit the vital parts of the brain. I will not respond to any attacks against this post. I am not here to argue. I am simply saying that if a person thinks shooting themselves in the temple is the most efficient gunshot to your brain then that person needs to do much more research. I would not rely on a 9MM either. The size of bullet matters, and it probably should be hollow point. I am trying to help a person avoid doing something horrible to themselves.

The best type of ammo to use is defense ammo. But I don't think anyone can accuse the 9mm of being unreliable.

The whole thing with that brain stem seems to be a bit too complicated, I don't think i would be able to make such a precise shot
Just point straight back. A shotgun is more certain but makes a mess.
