i dont anything to do anything anymore. im just trying to do this right. but im so scared of failing im just sitting here looking at it

I feel your distress... I believe you. I was told deep breaths tricks the body into belueving it's safe now. Maybe do a bit more research to make sure of success... Take the time to find sedatives? Have you considered any indy producers or maybe even the retro handheld emulation scene? Arguably a bit easier to make assets for and less expense. I'm thinking maybe if you could use the same story mechanics and characters but 'port' them to a mobile platform you could A) get it made and put out & B) perhaps still see some income out of it & C) get something on your portfolio and gain some acknowledgement. Perhaps, hopefully some further work.

It often seems like people start with passion projects that they poured their hearts into and then had to somehow compromise. It's a bit of a right of passage so to speak. Some of them do really well and one day retuen to their project with loads of backing and get to do it better than they hoped. I missed an obviously not all. It's a competitive world but it does happen. I saw loads of old timers do that later in their carriers. In different creative fields. Worlds a cruel place.
I was told that passion & caring could be bad for business. Because when we're too emotionally attached to our work, we can't bear to see that we failed trying to make it perfect, that it needs some adjustments. We don't handle criticism well. They expect workers to just build what they ask even if it's crap. Like we're tools.

Most of the score for locations/events in relation to the character share the motif used in their prominent themes. e.g. Keith's leitmotif is guitar-emphasis, it's used in other themes; [Raian] theme, boss battle 4, during climatic conflict after a major event in relation to Keith. There's much to be told about each individual character, plot, events in relation to the lore and scenario.

e.g. (ウェン・リー) Wenli, a bounty hunter from Jirisan is thought of as the energetic, comic relief of the party, seemingly always having a very positive and cheery personality despite the war, raids and Redacted
With reason: underneath her boisterous and energetic persona, she is a young girl wretched with pain; over the loss of her mother, and seeing her father lose himself and deteriorate into a mere former shell of himself, allowing Jirisan to become a lapdog to the empire as a result. Wenli uses her energetic nature as way to cope with her struggles.
This is reflected in Jirisan's theme, which serves as her theme; an acoustic, oriental, melancholy-esque melody, a rather sorrow tone for the girl that has much energy in the party.

There are acoustic versions/variations of the original, such as Erto's and Wenli's theme, some with slower tempos; various instrument types, others loosely preserve the central melody to be used for motifs/leitmotifs in characters themes and events that occur during specific points.

Completed scores:

Seeking Solace; the main Overworld theme (World 1).
The score begins with a familiar acoustic variation of the original slow tempo melody, while gradually transitioning into a
melancholy acoustic rendition of Hymn of Ecthar (no vocals version).
In light of the dark tone of the world; war, broken volition; this theme represents little hope
that of the Redacted. It is Tribal's theme (main theme). A rendition of this melody is played again
in Transient Reunion, the theme played during Redacted.


Heart of Purity; the theme that occurs while visiting various towns and villages/hamlets.
It is a theme associated with Tribal. It also occurs during the last event in the Submerged Ruins.
It shares the lemotif of Seeking Solace in its composition.


City of Despair (クリフ∙フィンガー, lit. 'Cliff Finger'), the theme of the location Moore, the city of despair. It earned its surname, City of Despair, due to the city being in desolate ruins after the tragedy befell by the Tochi Empire.
The term 'cliff finger' alludes to the specific location in Moore; the due to the design's structure's shape of a curved finger.


Hymn of Ecthar エクター祈りの歌 (Ecthar, Song of Prayer), the theme associated with the village of Ectharians.
It is a song sung by the Ectharians as they pray to the guardians of the planets, Eicons.

There are two versions of this score, one with vocals and one without vocals.
The non-vocals version occurs when Tribal visits the village a second time, as rebel—not of the Empire and not a threat to the surviving villagers.
This is also the title music theme, a variation of this version as well.

Crimson Feast, クリムゾン・シャドウ (Crimson Shadow), the fourth boss battle theme.
It uses the emphasis of an electric and bass guitar, Keith's leitmotif; this boss theme is played during the climactic event which his emotion are at its peak. The score samples parts of the current original; same tempo, synths, brass, melody, is very exhilarating.
*The SPC700 tune is retained, serving as allusion to the game's art style; reminiscent of retro 16 bit graphics.
*The spc distortion heard are intentionally kept, alluding the unhinged nature of the Redacted.

Victory is the theme of each battle victory. The score begins with a rendition of an old theme from an old project of mine, Facing Fate; reorchestrated version in FK.

Forlorn Melancholy, 迷いを捨てる路 [Mayoi wo Suteru Michi] (Doubt Abandoned) is a very special theme.
It is played during event at which Redacted emotions are at its peak; as Redacted wanders aimlessly
through the Thuja's depths.

The Sancts Relam (神々のエデン, lit. Eden of the Gods) is an ethereal civilization in the skies.
The Sanct Triad have colonized an entire kingdom on top of the clouds. Due to its location, it appears as an everlasting night sky with brilliant stars illuminating the darkness.

I would strongly suggest therapy. It's not easy being an artist. It's absolutely not. Getting funding and interest in your work is incredibly hard. And dealing with racism on top of that is just awful. I think you need to take a step back and try to get some perspective as well as ways to cope with disappointments because there are going to be major disappointments, it's part of the process.

I have a friend who made a film but has had to live with some negative reviews and has spent years trying to deal with ways to release it, to some success, but she also had to essentially give up on it because her financial backer basically stopped caring. My sister took on a project to publish her own book on an art project and needs to raise thousands of dollars. If she doesn't get the grants she applied for I'm not sure what will happen. I know you know art is hard but I'm just giving my perspective of other people also struggling. Even the most successful artists have many stories of failure and rejection. I'm reading a book on Charlotte Bronte and the Brontes all had to use pseudonyms and deal with rejection after rejection. Charlotte never got her first book published until after her death. Their brother, meanwhile, got some of his poems published but sadly slipped into drinking and possibly mental illness and died without making much of himself.

You should be proud of yourself for trying and for being creative. I'm just thinking that maybe therapy could help because it sounds like you could use someone to talk to about this and ways to cope with the stress and pain of it. There's also things like DBT you can look into for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. If not that, then maybe there is some sort of game making group you can get involved in to find some comradrarie or help?

I know these sound like stupid suggestions. A lot of us have done plenty of therapy and still feel suicidal. Maybe you have too. But there could be ways of handling rejection that don't involve offing yourself. I'm seeing a lot of irony as I say this bc I feel suicidal because of rejection more or less, but the difference is I caused it. So I guess do as I say not as I do. Or maybe do as I do as I'm apparently incapable of killing myself. Anyway, I hope this post does not offend you. Wishing you luck.

About the language (language #2 in FK)

Culture
Mydehu (pronounced as 'My-da-who') are a nationality in Final Kismet. The Mydehu live life to the fullest, though not in a hurried way. Instead, Mydehus tend to take their time, deliberately, to appreciate the world and people around them. In Machiyume people wander vivacious villages and charming cities. Most Mydehu in Machiyume or those who've migrated are typically bilingual, learning other languages to communicate effectively outside their country. However those who are not primarily reside in the southern islands.
The Mydehu originate from Machiyume. When the town was seized and under martial law of Tochi, locals fled to refuge in Grandal; others migrated to the slums region as immigrants.

The Dialect of Mydehu shares similarities to Andalusian, the Spanish dialect spoken in southern Spain. It sounds more fluid and softer than other Spanish dialects.
Prominent differences of pronunciation among dialects of Cbyheynt (pronounced as 'sigh-bi-hane') include:
-Lack of distinction between phonemes
-Reduction of unstressed vowels when in contact with voiceless consonants.

I did compose the lyrics of the Ecthar's Hymn as it is part of the scenario (thus event code). It's interpreted different in other languages; not only via the in-game language. It is only performed by a single female vocalist because despite the many interpretations, it is only written one way in Ectharian, thus only sung one way. The English interpretation is an offset, pulled straight from the game's event, before it is officially translated in game in the proceeding event. Remember, it is sung by the Ectharians, not solely one—however due to circumstances, Tribal's memory of the hymn is obscured. So in his recollection, thus these lyrics, are interpreted differently from how it is actually sung by the villagers; it is poetic. Of course, he would have also added to the poem based on the adjacent events that had occurred.

I'm not an artist, I was a programmer. Event programmer to be exact, which handles the programming of all actions and events in the game.
Take a step back; I've leaped back feet away and went back at it, Prejudice is not part of the process. It is. I won't continue to be part of that veiled prejudice.

This is all in the past, hence I speak about it all in the past tense. It was already a long development back then is where it soared, because things were different back then; I had expended all my saving on it. i couldn't get very big loans then either so i used the smaller ones i was able to effectively, even then and now it was left at a standstill.

I'm not "offing' myself because of rejection, my pain is far more complex than that.

Gaming industry has changed so much over the last 20yrs. Its so cut throat these days. I remember when the term triple A became a thing and I cringed in disdain. Its nice as a consumer to have big titles but all this corporate stuff stifles unique IP's. There is quite a big indy scene and we see so many mobile and Indy titles (to the point of saturation) but they're not independant in the way of the independant titles that influenced the term indy. I think it's a shame. The pretty public mojang story is quite indicative of it all. Littke indy game gains traction and millions are at stake and with it creative vision gets tainted.

Would you ever return to Final Kismet if the opportunity presented itself? Do you still have any hope for that?

Not sure if you would be interested in viewing it but I saw a documentary on the guy who made the game FEZ. He clearly had some issues of his own and it details the troublesome period between concept and release. It was never a good experience for the guy even though he's probably glad he did it now. Interesting documentary and something you might dind some catharsis in watching. If you like I could search for the title as I can't remember it off the top of my head just now.

With Sandstorm I was able to achieve AA in part contract. To give an idea/compare, the quality of pre-rendered LB in FFBE; which were created in Unreal and rendered in Maya via Arnold. Mania Carta's design philosophy is around this quality standard (character models); i am grateful for them and resources provided to me, even it meant working at midnight-morning and sleeping through the day, i was happy, grateful and not suicidal, for once I didnt hear slug ring through ear. I hadn't truly realized how big fk was in terms of length until Mania pointed it out our last meeting back then. fk is no short journey—for us, for players. then there's also the pixel art (main). Remember there's UFPC now, I started using small versions in the early stage but as dev grow, I started to train more complex assets, thus I created the term UFPC, (unique-field player character); while testing the usage of ambient sounds, subtle details that really add to the atmosphere. I mentioned a while back, which is a new method I manage to get partially working (because it was complex) but never finished.
As for mobile, FK is primarily for PC; then I certainly did consider porting FK to the Nintendo Switch, as the design and art style is perfect for handhelds. I did test it a bit on mobile device for a short while and looked amazing on mobile (android build, Samsung A32). But as far as mobile consoles like the switch I'm not a partner with developer program, only playstation 4 devnet. I haven't even updated my info in over a year since I decided to develop on PC primarily as its easier for me and save the porting for a re-release.

I personally dont like having the corporate side interfere or directly affect Ips itself, so I always knew I'd never do that with FK, or any at that. I had written my autobiography, it's still on the About documents page on FK's site. My projects before had always been outside of the box, realm of things, something new that also had a twist on things that are seemingly appearing as common; with FK it just got elevated it kept coming, so part of me hasnt taken SN yet because I kept reminiscing on how much FK has grown since the beginning, and of course the anniversary of it doesn't help. WIth FK, the content wouldn't stop flowing, I hadn't written like that in years, since Facing Fate days.

I would 1000% return to FK if the opportunity arose itself. As for hope, well, you may have heard me recite my this:

'Hope brings disappointment.'

Those projects that keep expanding are great when your creativity is flowing and you're never stuck for ideas. They do get quite out of hand though for me because my ambitious greed is bigger than my range lol. Not that I'm unable to do the work but I don't have the time, facilities or resources really.

I could totally see FK on Switch. Its a shame that can't happen for the moment. I think switch will be like gameboy and be updated in future (many new models etc) but always be Switch by name.

I wasn't aware there was a site for FK. I'll take a look. A lot of work has gone into this I can see. So many games have met this kind of end where development stopped for one reason or another. I always wonder what lost potential is out there. I like unique IP's. Shadow of the Colossus is probably my favourite.

I guess PC is a logical choice. I think I can understand why you would lean that way. I like what you say about the intricacies that make all the difference to atmosphere. I'm a big fan of intricacy and detail.

Just out of curiosity, would you have to reapply to develop for PS5 or does your PS4 devnet access transfer over?

Maybe a nice person will see how much this means to you and leave you a generous gift before they CTB. I always think and hope there are still people like that out there somewhere. 🙂

No they're Sandstorm is a japanese CGI animation studio. they (including Mania Carta) create assets and cut scenes for Final Kismet.

I wasn't aware there was a site for FK. I'll take a look. A lot of work has gone into this I can see. So many games have met this kind of end where development stopped for one reason or another. I always wonder what lost potential is out there. I like unique IP's. Shadow of the Colossus is probably my favourite.

I guess PC is a logical choice. I think I can understand why you would lean that way. I like what you say about the intricacies that make all the difference to atmosphere. I'm a big fan of intricacy and detail. Just out of curiosity, would you have to reapply to develop for PS5 or does your PS4 devnet access transfer over?

FK's site is not open publicly, it stopped months ago.

No guess, as known was, it started on PC and would end on PC; I certainly wasn't going to halt the develop then in attempt to migrate it to PS4, which was the only partner dev I had.
Access transfers, I just have to request it. because I hadn't access the portal in long my credentials have to be updated (like update password, confirm emails, IPs, etc.). I also had changes to the core email and domain (FK).

Maybe a nice person will see how much this means to you and leave you a generous gift before they CTB. I always think and hope there are still people like that out there somewhere. 🙂

No count, fk died along with me. at least i could say i died with some love with me. Even if figuratively. fk

Speaking from my memory how I last left it:
no tmuch on the game asset side; mostly remaining UFPC assets and some end game battle assets.
mostly engine related programming and debugging; there are still numerous errors, bugs and glitches throughout the game an offset to the engine which affects event code.
There was a feature last being tested with using some 3D backdrop elements. like UFPC it was never fully functionally, so the old assets was a fall back.

The rest is cutscene completion. I dont have those documents here, but the last cutscene worked on was either "Aftermath" or Sinister Imperator, cutscene marking the end of the Grandall Invasion event.
7 out of ~21 iirc. Most of these especially the BTL-HD ones aren't long cutscenes. Most BTL-HD are 10-19 seconds.

Yeah, I've been annoyed by thw dumbing down of games for a long long time. It's an attwmpt to meet demands of the most people they can. That might bring in money but no game can be suited to meet the entire gaming community without becoming grey and bland. There's phrase I heard "A camel is a horse designed by a committee.". Meanining that all the vision if the horses design gets lost due to too many views and it just becomes an object of practicality and nothing more. Both functional in their own way but belonging in different environments and markets that are far apart. Artisitic vision all too often is presented with the proposal of compromise. The art that hits the mainland (and game design is art) has an iceberg of beaty many tines its size below which never sees the day of light to our detriment.

So much pain in these posts - I don't know who Alexander is, I'm not a gamer, but I understand a bit about seeking investors / venture capital for a publishing project and empathize with rejection. Not sure I understand it seems maybe FK borrows characters and elements from other work or whether that is a factor. Our world of entertainment had changed where there is way more overlap now. Pitching a game, film, tv series, book, stage play - for funding - is brutally competitive. Cross platform is when investors look to when say a book becomes a film, a film becomes a game. A film becomes a stage play. the stakes are so high. A game or film or tv series becomes a licensing juggernaut for merchandise. Halloween costumes, board games, Lego sets, bed linens. so much more blended now. It's ferociously competitive.

FK doesn't borrow any character. This assumption has to stop, especially when you haven't even seen the character designs. Inspiration is not copying, and if that's what you really think, inspiration wouldn't be a thing at all. There are inspiring elements, everywhere in all media, the term borrow implies that one took Cloud, or Terra, Tifa Aerith and as is to have as a cameo or something, borrowing it for some scene or something. That is not Final Kismet, this is my own game with my own characters, world and lore. It has nothing to do with Final Fantasy. I'm starting to feel bad for liking this game and being inspired, because look at the result,, this is not your own, this is nothing but borrowing, a mod its using FF characters and lore. But the characters in FK, especially the core characters are nothing like FF characters at all. First and furthermost. this was to be expected based on my demography, style and preference.
My pixel artist has their way of designing the characters. there's an art style, and there's how they execute it. If they felt inspired by other sources, that's fine, as long as it's inline with the character design and concept, is what matters.

I'm done talking about it, all of this is in the past, its dead, as apparently rightfully so, I just want to focus on taking SN.
Leave it be, there's nothing else to talk about.

Could you apply for jobs abroad for example in the UK? Just as a suggestion. In case there are companies that are not racist and even and hopefully looking to increase their diversity.

Sorry, not that one. This one, right here, the not normal one. Just because I too can program means that I have intelligence (ok) yet thus cannot be ill, unbearable, or still extremely chronically suicidal? It's rhetorical, not rocket science. YES I am.
Guess I should lay this one on the table, too:

I didn't stop programming, I stopped game dev, because I need money to do it and as a disabled I have none; in game dev, those on your team, your paying someone else's salary essentially, even when they're freelancing, it can still be hourly; and if think loans jobs and every else (debt) can be used to handle it, think again.
I'm not even a good programmer, I can't do API-level programming or decompiling. So of course I have to try and get help with that side of it. I'm dyslexic and don't learn like the rest. event programming through c-syntax was the only thing I was able to understand, the rest just gets jumbled in my head and i get overwhelmed and become suicidal again.

Living alone at a time: job to cover all personal expenses first, no money to save, balancing mental illness on top of trying force 2 extra jobs on myself in order to save for it, failed miserably, dealing with chronic pain and suicidal ideation in that mix = worse, get a loan, after a thousand tries just to get barely enough to cover publishing fees, website, steam fee, and all other things needed for it; parallel to this, team mates leaving left to right. You pay ok for a while, but dare fall on hard time (because you're indie and still new); nope forever gone, they leave you). makes sense, they need trust a privileged big company to milk money from.
Speaking of publishing, not that shit again; game publisher and investor bias, they don't cares about the game itself, story-driven? (meh), RPG (meh is it unless gacha possibly) (cash grab game? sure; NO—I don't make those; alright, later, good luck), just how much money it can dish out, which means these micro games, games with microtransactions, games that follow the masses another clone basically, and other crap.

Decided to try and give in and change it only to still be ignored, or ghosted (common) by even the "indie" publishers: "seer", "Chucklefish", "Versus Evil", "humble bundle", Phoenixx (jp) (not "Phoenix" online again), prototype-bias with "indie fund" = another denial. And keep in mind, when they tell me, "maybe with another title/game", nope, I'm blacklisted, try to come with another game and the same thing, before the pain really started affecting me, I decided—fuck it, just keep it self-published, but of course, with that "freedom" from deadline/crunch, comes with no backing, no funding.
Nope, can't do a Kickstarter until I have the initial money now to get it more, dealing this, and everything else, plus chronic pain, mental illness, and suicidal ideation, no it is no longer doable, I've been fighting this battle every single fucking day I wake. I'm done, I've been living the dream of Sir Illusion's delusion for long enough, its time I do myself a favor and end it already. I'm tired of being that failure. I just saw someone else the same way too. I'm an idiot too having this last interest.

Do you not see what's missing from the equation? If there was anything tangibly comparable to the others, it wouldn't be that way. But I don't compare myself anyways so I don't know.
