I used to be a lot into videogames and other stuff when I was younger, but I just kinda abandoned all my hobbies over the years. I guess I want to try and recover that part of myself, and thought this could be a good start, I loved games a lot.

Any recommendations? I mostly like games with a good story, turn based RPG's (some of my favorites were Paper Mario TTYD, the Mario & Luigi series, Child of Light, South Park: Stick of Truth, Undertale, Mario RPG), 2D and 3D platformers (Ori, Cave Story, Mario Galaxy, Epic Mickey, etc), visual novels (although the only one I played is Hotel Dusk, lol, I'm open to try more), beat em ups (same case, the only beat em up I played was Madworld, but I also enjoyed it a lot). Dunno about other genres, I guess I'm open to play shooters too, I've never played one. Same with horror games.

If it helps I have a Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS (if the battery hasn't died, I haven't turned them on for years), so perhaps it'd be a nice to be a game on those platforms? I'm also open to PC games (although my PC isn't very powerful) and emulation.

You have good taste!! Would you recommend South Park: Stick of Truth to someone who hasn't watched South Park? I liked the idea of the game when it was trending but never gave it a try.

I was watching Awesome Games Done Quick and there was a really cute N64-style 3d platformer with lots of movement tech and world variation where you play as a little dragon, it's called Cavern of Dreams. There are also the old Spyro games that i loved as a child as well.

OMORI is a RPGmaker game with a beautiful world, one of the best game soundtracks (imo) and complex story (no spoilers, but it does talk about mental health a lot) and is one of my all time favourites.

Then there's Darkest Dungeon which i haven't had a chance to play but is a turn-based roguelike RPG dungeon crawler in a very grim setting.

You seem like a real gamer. I highly recommend Deltarune If you haven't played it yet. If you liked Cave Story, which is more of a metroidvania than a platformer, I'd suggest playing all the Castlevania games on the DS. And also both Dementium games on the same console, it is a relatively little-known survival-horror series, but a good one to get acquainted with the genre. Oh, and since you have a Wii U, you definitely should try Breath of the Wild

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a game I've been calling my favorite game since 2015 so I'd recommend that if you are by chance interested in action games.

Yeah, I also never watched South Park but still enjoyed the game a lot. It's a very solid RPG.

It might sound very mainstream, but Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a very solid turn based game
The story and the soundtrack is breathtaking and the universe is very original too. I recommend it very much 😀

That game looks so good, but my PC can't handle it :/ I'll definitely play it when I get a better one.

I love Baulder's Gate 3, it's got a fantastic choices matter story and great turn-based combat (I would call it unique but it's just how dnd combat works, it's a unique experience compared to other games certainly). It's single player but it's got great multi-player capabilities too. But I feel like I can't recommend it to anyone because it's 70$ and like one william gigabits of space.

Now would be a great time to get into hollow knight with silksong just coming out. 2d platformer with combat elements, not too dissimilar from Ori. I've never played it but I know several people who have and they love it. Would take up less space too.

I'd honestly throw Disco Elysium in there as a recommendation, too. If you're looking for a more low-key visual novel-esque experience without any combat. Definitely darker then the other picks on the list but It's an indie classic for a reason. Good mix of comedy and melancholy introspection. Wouldn't recommend *buying* it per say because the people who own the game now are really shitty, but it's still a great game.

I think you can adjust the settings quote a bit so that it should be run on most recent computers (i can run it fine on my steam deck for example). Maybe not on older computers (10+ years)

Honestly you don't even need good graphics to enjoy it :)
If you can run it then you can enjoy the adventure just fine

haha hoy, if you're interested in Disco Elysium here's the link to the google docs, the fandom is pretty diligent about keeping pirated versions up though I have no idea if this link still works. It's been a while since I've used it, but still worth a shot. I feel like most people on this website might get something out of this game: it's got a lot of commentary on politics, mental illness, and addiction.
