How much more painful are tattoos than cutting yourself? One family member believes I won't be able to handle it, but I've been considering it. What do all of you think?

The type of pain is different. Tattoos are less painful than a full cut, but constant, low and dull. Depending on the area, you might find trouble, but most tattoo artists will let you calm down with a break if you need.

That's reassuring. I also know that the type of tools used determines the amount of pain one may experience, as well as the amount of detail in the designs, the voltage, etc., etc.

Tattoos don't hurt much at all for the most part, if you find a good artist. If you sit for 5/6 hours they will ultimately become painful. In some areas.
I have tattoos on both arms, a full sleeve on one, my neck, my chest and even on the soles of my feet. I definitely felt the feet but a bets a bet annd I lost but it's still funny to me. Apparently it's the most painful place to get one.
Besides that I had a tattoo in America with an artist I didn't know, me and a bunch of friends decided we would have matching tattoos to remember our adventure, I think the guy knew he had to be quick to get us all done, that's the roughest one I've had besides my feet.
Even then it wasn't painful just not as comfortable as it could have been.
It's also the only tattoo I've had that has blurred since and it's almost unreadable now.
Self harm and cutting is weird for me, sometimes I feel nothing at all even with aggressive cuts. But sometimes I'll open up an old wound or just effectively scratch it and it will sting like a mother f*cker. Way worse than any tattoo but the pain is gone in seconds.
I've got a terrible cut on my leg at the moment I've been cutting since February. Again very little pain but I have a terrible habit of scratching it. I suffer from restless leg syndrome so at night times it can be uncomfortable too because I rub my legs together so much in my sleep!
I can't find a picture but on the bottom of my other foot it says Ben loves cock just because my mate was annoying me one day when I was engineering a track for a tattoo artist

That can happen but it mainly depends on the artist. With the guy I go to normally Shading you don't even feel even after a full day. But if someone is in a hurry or you're doing it in a tender spot like your feet or inner elbow…you'll know about it. But like cutting it is short lived even at its worst.
If you think it would make you feel better or it's something you want go and do it! Once you start though it's so addictive and you'll soon find yourself wanting the next one

I love eyes and your eye tattoo is so cool! The details on it are really good.

I agree. Also depends on where. I have one on my back and damn did it hurt when they went across my spine.

Yeah that kind of makes sense. It's not unbearable at all! The soles of your feet I don't recommend. My sleeve was actually fine. He put east bound and down on the tv and I'd not seen it before so I had some distraction. When it came to my inner arm and elbow it got sore. But it was a long sitting but still different from cutting. I think with tattoos a lot depends on the artist

Nobody touches the soles of my feet! :0

But indeed, it really makes a difference which artist is working

Nice pictures you've got!

Yeah it's not something i recommend! On one I lost a bet and about the name of a character in step brothers whilst very drunk DJing at gate crasher on New Year's Eve. The other l was engineering a track for a tattoo artist and my mate Ben Wouldn't stop messaging me on msn, so I asked Kiz if he had his tattoo stuff in the car, I told him to write something offensive on my foot. So I have property of Keyes on one foot and Ben loves cock on the other, not that I'm impulsive or manic or anything 😂
