Not content with just hounding autonomous adults choosing to die of their own volition, or gaslighting mentally competent adults as "vulnerable"; Shawn's mom also opposes regulated assisted-suicide for terminal illness:

>"Jackie Bieber shared the story of her daughter, Shawn, who committed suicide in 2019 at the age of 25. Suffering from depression and social anxiety, Shawn was active on websites promoting suicide and learned how to order ingredients to make a lethal drug cocktail. She talked to people in the chat room as she took the drugs, and they encouraged her when she said she felt "terrified."
Bieber talked about how people link mental suffering to physical suffering and conclude that the means for a peaceful death should be available to them as well.
"Our message should be consistent and of one voice. Suicide should not be promoted for anyone who has terminal or mental illness," Bieber said.

These are the people who impinge on our right to die.

Okay, this is just fucking repulsive.

They won't even let the terminally ill be at peace?

TERMINALLY ILL

Try living with the agony of cancer or ALS. Slowly dying, capacity to perform basic tasks depleting, becoming more and more dependent upon others, being robbed of your dignity, body deteriorating, physical pain building with each given day, & tormented with the knowledge that your final moments will inevitably be spent with you writhing in agony.

Imagine how hard that is to watch for the families of the afflicted as well. Having to witness your loved one suffer so profoundly. Knowing that there's absolutely nothing that you can do to alleviate what ails them. Repeatedly confronted with your own helplessness.

Dying from incurable disease isn't remotely fucking pretty.

They'd never wish the same on a dog, yet they have the audacity to condemn another human being to such a horrendous fate? Revolting.

My dog was humanely euthanized surrounded by the people that cherished him the most in this world. I lovingly cradled him in my arms as he faded away. He'd been diagnosed with liver cancer and had recently begun to vomit up blood.

Letting him go was one of the hardest decisions we ever had to make as a family (my dog was legitimately like a brother to me, as I'd known him for virtually my entire life), but to prolong his suffering solely because of my own selfish desire not to part ways would be the ultimate act of self-serving cruelty.

My dog deserved better than to die in a puddle of his own blood and vomit. Human beings deserve better than to die in that way too, and their families deserve better than having to witness their loved ones crumble and rot right in front of their very eyes.

I am genuinely sorry that this individual lost her daughter, but why act to subject the terminally ill to further torture??? If you're pro-life that's one thing, but these people are going to die either way. There's no medical intervention that can save them. It's much different than other forms of suicide.

Is it the fear that this will open up a can of worms? Wasn't that the same type of argument that was used by conservatives in the case against legalization of gay marriage?

I just… I don't even know what to think anymore. 😞

All the more reason we need to fight people like her, and ensure that this site never dies. And IRL we must fight everywhere for right to die laws.

I understand she suffered the loss of her daughter, but this is a sick and miserable, and frankly evil, woman. It takes a sick person to wish that even the terminal should be forced against their will to die in excruciating pain and agony.

One voice. Her voice. Because apparently in the grand scheme of things, her opinion is the only one that matters.

Why is she the one that gets to make the decisions? It's not as though she's dying. Where are all the voices of the terminally ill? The people that are actually affected by this should be the ones to weigh in.

Assisted suicide here in Oregon is legal for terminal illness. You can get a pill by prescription from your doctor. A friend of mine got one for terminal cancer and took it when the pain got really bad. It was a nice peaceful death. I've heard it cost 500 bucks but some pharmacies refuse to give it out. Not sure how true that is. I'd love to ask my doctor for the script but I'm sure he'll say no for mental health issues even though I consider it terminal.

I tried googling but couldn't find out. I'm just curious, is the death with dignity prescription known by the public? The pill that they take.

I know it's usually bad practice to blame the parent for their child's decision, but in this case I'd be surprised if she wasn't the direct cause, given her extremely self-centered attitude. Maybe if the lawmakers ignore her, it might help her see herself for the insignificant pissant she truly is.
Is she really religious or something? I don't understand the argument against euthanasia at all.
Euthanasia bad because life is beautiful, or something... IDK I'm not a pro-suffering NPC

Keeping someone alive against their will is one of the cruelest things you can do to them. What she's trying to do is profoundly selfish and it's clear that she has no interest in respecting people's right to choose since she believes she knows better than everyone else. Only the people experiencing their own life and suffering get to decide if it's their time to go.

Really don't want to discuss these people at great length but this is an odd move and one which will backfire on her part imo. Campaigning ostensibly against "vulnerable teens joining an online death cult" can be presented as a laudable and noble crusade, campaigning against the actually terminally ill seeking assistance in death, standing against those suffering a slow and agonising slide towards the inevitable, is not a good look and public opinion is moving, albeit glacially, towards accepting the necessity of easing the suffering of the terminally ill. I wouldn't get as angry about it as people appear to be, she's overreaching, gone beyond her remit, and she'll be taken much less seriously on this issue than she thinks.

I just watched an interview with her and she said her daughter "didn't seem sad" and that SS coaxed her to die. Your daughter was probably suffering for years. This was only a week after the suicide though. She's had plenty of time to reflect now. Instead of growing some understanding she's doubling down and going after terminally ill people like a monster. The road to hell is paved with good intentions lady.

Her daughter wanted to die mainly because she hated working from the threads she posted on here. Now I'm sure there were other reasons of course, but the thought of working all your life just to barely be able to actually live is a hard pill to swallow for some especially if I remember right she was an Amazon worker and they treat their employees like shit.

She's not acting from a view of compassion and understanding she's acting from her own self-centeredness. She's so consumed by her own self-righteousness that she believes prolonged pain and misery is better because it validates her belief in suicide being inherently evil to the core. Fuck this woman.
