I have a strict definition of friendship: "A couple of nonfamilial people who habitually interact with one another (in person) under no obligations other than the mutual enjoyment of the interactions themselves."
I have had many friendly acquaintances at school and work, but these relationships never evolved into friendships as we would only interact when we were obligated to be together, such as when we were working together or at school together. As soon as there was no obligation to be together, we would not interact at all. I realize I was never anyone's first choice.
I have had many friendly encounters online, especially on this site, but I could never call them true friendships because there is always a cloak of anonymity with the internet. These people don't truly know who I am, and I don't truly know who they are. I don't believe in online friendship; that doesn't mean I don't think some of the strangers I encounter on the internet seem like amazing people.
I never had friends (that I can remember).
