• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I've been having more frequent intrusive thoughts lately, and ofc the classic "what if I put a fork in this socket" came up, and it made me wonder - why isn't this a discussed suicide method? I understood it would definitely kill you? And pretty quickly, too. Maybe I'm wrong about it... I'm not sure, can anyone tell me why this isn't more commonly considered?

It's not instant, there's a lot of pain (you can see people convulsing pretty badly for a few minutes), it sometimes doesn't work (I think there's something to do with circuit breakers? but I'm not an expert on that at all)
I also know before you die your body will do anything to live, whether you like it or not lol, so it could also be that we end up pulling back/away?
I'd be curious to hear other thoughts and know if i'm on the right track at all

My dumb nerd ass first of all thought of something GitHub-related, and not literally a fork and a socket 🚬
I don't know, I remember inserting a plug with exposed wires into a socket as a kid, and touching them - got zapped pretty well of course, and then my hand hurt and felt weak

Well, most if not all home electricity is single phase and what @00ps mentioned is 100% correct, as the pain would be beyond imagination.

The worst part would be surviving the situation, as the pain and possible brain damage would make living a complete nightmare.

Please do not think of such a gruesome potential ctb way again ever, please.

You are too wonderful of a person to suffer long term.

Walter

i did this accidentally once. i had a cheap knock off iphone charger at the time and it was plugged on an extension cord near me on the floor and i reached out yanked it to plug something else in and the two prongs stayed. i didnt think much and just reached out like it was any other thing and realized how stupid i was when my entire arm went numb and tingly but thankfully i could pull back and turn off the extension cord. and this was with 240v, in the us i think you have like 110 iirc. i think you have to be wet for this to work at all.

In short: because it's not a good or reliable method.
