Just what the title says. Supposedly walmart pharmacy sells it for 25 dollars a vial, no prescription needed. Aside from needing to inject it, probably a more pleasant death than SN.

What's the source of your information?

Yeah we used to get this for our diabetic dog, no script needed.

Although that was a few years ago, I'm not sure if it's still available.

how do you do it though?
asking for both myself to CTB, and for my diabetic roommate who cannot afford insulin. both of us could benefit from that!

Yikes the Novolin R is $150 now. They have Novolog vials and pens less expensive but they're sure not $25 anymore. Boooooooo. Probably require a script now too. Maybe it's hiding and I just can't find it. You could always call the Walmart pharmacy and ask if the $24.88 insulin is still available.

For your roommate, there's a few patient assistance programs out there if they didn't expand Medicaid in your state.

I take both long acting and short acting insulin. Some manufacturers are offering all the insulin you need for the month for a flat rate. Sanofi actually has a savings card for $35 a month if you don't have insurance. https://www.lantus.com/sign-up-for-savings

Have them check out patient assistance or savings programs for the manufacturer of their insulins. Or they could switch to one that offers the cheapest option. I'll have to switch both mine at the end of the month when I lose Medicaid coverage. Better to switch and pay $25 instead of $100.

ETA: It's such a pain in the ass to have to jump through hoops to get affordable meds sometimes. And the programs aren't advertised as much as the savings cards which are usually only good for people with commercial insurance. You have to go sleuthing around for the info and sometimes there's a form that your doctor has to fill out and fax in. Kind of hard to get all that done if you're depressed as shit and barely have the energy and motivation to get out of bed.

You definitely can't get insulin without a prescription, and you really shouldn't try. Low blood sugar isn't a peaceful death, and you shouldn't let your death have such negative consequences for other people. Insulin is a resource that people NEED to live, and it shouldn't be made unavailable to them because someone else wants to use it to die. It's such a waste when there are much better methods that can be used.

This hits kinda close to home for me since my sister is diabetic.

Yeah I probably should have mentioned that I don't think it's a great idea either but I thought I'd offer what info I had. Especially for the roommate that can't afford insulin. Type 1 diabetics have died from rationing their insulin just because they can't afford it.

The lowest mine has been was 45 and that suuuuuuucked. I was shaking so hard I couldn't even use my meter. My mom had to do it. I remember reading a thread here that said someone tried to CTB with insulin and they ended up crawling to their kitchen and devouring a bunch of food.

They have Reli-On regular and I believe it is $45 a vial now. You can purchase without a prescription still. But insulin is not a comfortable way to go and you usually end up eating everything in your house to stop the symptoms

don't do it. don't use insulin to ctb its not peaceful or easy or always successful. plus you are taking it away from people who actually need it.

Supposedly, just go to the pharmacy counter and ask for it. Comes in two kinds: R (regular) and NH (intermediate acting). Both 25 bucks.

I think that this method can be improved by adding a lot of Metformin tablets. I thought about this method a couple of years ago - I guess it's a peaceful death - sometimes I take 1000mg metformin to get to sleep - it makes me sleepy and I sleep well, in the morning there are no consequences because lipolysis returns my glucose level to its original values. Of course, I understand that this can be very dangerous, but I am so nervous that even 15 mg of fenobarbital cannot put me to sleep. But insulin is quite expensive where I live, although I can buy it without a prescription.
