So after a few delays I am finally getting my will sorted up. There isn't much to leave but I would rather give what little I have to some good causes. My cremation fees will also be taken care of. Now, I just want to 'try' to make peace with myself and others and let go of it all. God, give me the strength I need to finally lay down and rest...for good.

Do you feel more settled knowing that you have gotten things sorted? It's something I need to do. I actually made a will when I was in my teens if I remember because I was so convinced I would die young. My Mum died at 40. At the time, I had inherited some money from my grandparents and wanted it to go to the people that had cared for me the most.

Very disappointed to have made it past 40... Really thought it would be over by now... Spent the inheritance and a lot of the original people in the will have passed on themselves- so- need a rethink!

Would like to arrange a cremation too and a house clearance company- my place is such a mess. I'd rather have paid proffessionals have to deal with it.

Did you make the solicitor the executor of the will? Does that mean they have the power to deal with funerals etc? Don't know I'll ever have the guts to actually ctb but feel like I really ought to have gotten the boring paperwork crap out the way if I do.

It isn't sorted yet, but I am in the process. Yes, I did make the solicitor the executor. It should be a fairly straightforward will, but it is more peace of mind to get it out the way. Sorry to hear about your mother passing. :aw: 40, is a really young age for a parent to die. My mother died from cancer a couple of years back. We were very close and I haven't been right since. I think they call it reactive depression. I am pushing 40 myself, but I doubt I will see it because my plans are all laid out. I really have to get off this rock before I go nuts haha. Best to you and whatever you do moving forward.

Good on you for taking control and responsibility over such things. That's the next item on my checklist to do. Kinda dreading it, because I get anxious just trying to decide on both important and unimportant decisions, like buying a new appliance, or even a new pair of shoes, as if it were an irrevocable choice with lasting consequences, let alone something so final as a will...but I can't put it off forever.

Yeah, I know were you are coming from. I have been putting it off for ages but I woke up one morning and decided, fuck it. As Elvis said, it's now or never. It's strange because I just keep doing my normal routine things and even buy new stuff, as if I will be around forever :)) Ah, the joys of being a creature of habit lol

Funny you say that; yesterday, I just had an eye exam, and ordered stronger lenses for my glasses. This weekend, I am getting my brakes done. Unexpected expenses that will (slightly) shorten my financial cushion, and cost me time from my CTB date (slightly), but at the same time, I am noticing my far-distance eyesight got worse, now that I am driving to work every day, and can't even see faces from down the hallway at work clearly. And just had the car through inspection, and the back brakes are a little low. Funny thing was I was previously only driving one day a week, so the garage recommended reviewing the brakes next year, since I'm not driving so much. But now I'm driving daily. For now. The irony of the timing of both of these...getting new glasses and brakes just months before my CTB date. But I feel like I should, for the safety of others. Otherwise, I'd have said screw it. (Watch, though; I won't be surprised if this is my last week at the current assignment, which will then be my last.)

(Also, though, I hope the brake pad change will help the resale value of the car when I sell it before CTB'ing...)

lol, yeah, life is full of strange surprises. Well at least you are thinking of the safety of others and hopefully you get a good deal on your car. I think it is important to just keep doing what you do before the final act because we are still human. We are only doing the things we would do, only planning a little more for the inevitable. Best wishes mate! 👍

Thank you so much. It's awful at any age- losing someone you love. I am sorry about your Mum too. Yes, wouldn't it be nice if we all went peacefully in our sleeps tonight and said goodbye to this rock. Best to you too.
