Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind. Butterfly effect. Loverboy. Closer. Match point. I stand alone. Tropic thunder. Don't be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood.
Plenty more.
Love butterfly effect

If I have to pick one, currently it's Gummo, even though in my mind it's already more a solid piece of art than just a movie

I remember when I planned to commit suicide in the night, but before that decided to watch The Shashawnk Redemption without ever hearing anything about it, just to pass the time. When I finished it, my hole body was filled with hope and gratefulness, I was in tears and felt I need to do something, went walking for hours while being filled with love, I didn't see surroundings or anything anymore, I just felt so alive. That was the time when I felt a movie saved me, at least so I thought. That's good, because better things were yet to come. I was a lot younger also, so I was really suggestible.

I have many favourite movies -
Drive, The lion king, Stalker, Pink floyd: The wall, The Big Lebowski, Dark knight, The Seventh Seal, Amadeus and so many more. But I never get tired of American Beauty.

Defending Your Life...if you haven't yet seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out before you check out. It's a great take on life and death. I just thought of What Dreams May Come...watch that one if you want to cry your eyes out. It also was quite advanced for its time, combining painted images with cgi or something along those lines.

Both movies are incredible... I really enjoyed both!

I remember the reason i liked Soylent Green so much. The character played by edward g robinson decides he's had enough of living in this apocalyptic future society. There is a facility where people can go to end their lives peacefully... by now the world has become so shitty that it's an accepted concept. He is taken to a room and watches a screen which shows memories of how beautiful life used to be on earth and dies peacefully. Naturally there is no footage of him being sedated or given lethal drugs. It struck me that a time will come where such things might become commonplace, but that the shit has to get a lot deeper.

American Beauty...touched something in me I didn't know existed until then. Turns out Harvey Weinstein and and Kevin Spacey are likely perverted pricks, but they made some good movies. The Big Lebowski deserves to be rereleased for more youthful generations to appreciate.

so many...
The Lord of the Rings and the Return of the King and Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2 excite the fantasy part that I have; Ratatouille and Wall-e the child part that still has not left me (I think I'll always like them). Cruel Intentions because there is always a bitch and selfish part that dwells in me and Mother, who represents so many things.
I also like Angels and Demons (more than Da Vinci Code), The Other boleyn girl and Lucy.

I showed someone Melancholia and they asked why you didn't see huge destruction of cities. I think they were expecting Deep Impact 2. It was totally wasted on them. It's one of best films I've ever seen

I didn't see any of these three films in the thread, so I've decided to add them, since they're my favourites. Needless to say, I recommend them all.

Chungking Express is pretty much the quintessential Hong Kong drama film of the 1990's, and taught me that Hong Kong cinema wasn't just Kung Fu, crime (although it has that aspect to it, it's no Election or Infernal Affairs) and slapstick comedy films. It also helps that it was the favourite film of my best friend and Faye Wong kind of reminds me of her.

Taste of Cherry is an Iranian film about a suicidal man. It got me into Iranian, and by extension, Middle Eastern cinema.

I like all of the films in Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours trilogy, but Blue has to be my favourite.
