  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Sylvia Plath and Kurt Cobain. Would've loved to be able to read more by Plath and I wonder what Kurt would be like these days. What would his music sound like, his political views, etc.

Heath Ledger. Some say it wasn't a suicide but he took a cocktail of sleeping pills causing enough sedation for him to stop breathing. I remember watching him in Knights Tale and Patriot when I was little and just recently learned about his death.

Ah man can't believe I forgot about Heath Ledger. I loved his performance as the Joker in Batman.

Yes he was such a great actor. Apparently he was under a lot of stress at the time which is why I believe it was an accidental CTB.

Mark Linkous from the band Sparklehorse. I have autism and have trouble relating to people unless it's through deep connection, but when I first heard his music I thought "this guy gets it".

Online he was known as Etika, but his name is Desmond Amofah. He was a Youtuber who was known in the Smash Bros and Nintendo community and I loved his videos. his mental health started going downhill alot, and lots of people thought it was just his humor, when in reality he was in psychosis and was suicidal. He killed himself in june of 2019, almost close to his birthday I think. It KILLS me knowing sick fucks online thought his calls for help and obvious psychotic behavior was all an act. I hate it. People of color with mental health issues are never taken seriously and I hope one day they will be. because they are often seen as violent and erratic when experiencing mental illness, when in reality they are all the same as white people in their experiences in mental health, it's all just a racial prejudice. I know he is no longer suffering, but I miss Etika alot. He was such a charming and kind person always there for his community to bring happiness to all. Rest in peace man...

Tony Bourdain. Broke this cook's heart. Mark and I felt so bad for Eric Ripert, who found him in Tony's hotel room in France.

Kurt Cobain. I lived in Austin, when he died, and was listening to the radio, on the way home from the grocery store. It was announced on the station I was listening to. I pulled over to cry and saw so many other cars doing the same.
Robin Williams. David Foster Wallace. No words, for the pain they suffered.

A lot of these were before my time, but they stuck with me.

Kurt Kobain
Ernest Hemingway
Sylvia Plath
Heath Ledger
Virginia Woolf
Vincent Van Gogh
Robin Williams
Chester Bennington

Artists, one and all. Actors, writers, poets, painters. "Tortured artist" is a phrase for a reason. Such breadth of imagination can be haunting. I've always loved writing myself.

Robin hits the hardest. Grew up with his movies, always made me laugh. Guy always seemed so full of life. He wasn't limited to comedy though. He played inspiration roles in Good Will Hunting and Dead Poets Society. I loved Worlds Greatest Dad as well. Broke my heart when I found out about his passing, and how it came to be.

Honorable mention to Poe. While not a suicide, it was a tragic death non-the-less. To die on the streets in squalor, coughing up blood. He had a beautiful mind, and his work is immortalized the world over. His poem's and stories have always been a comfort for me.
