I know this may sound weird but wondering if I'm the only one to have noticed it at least?

Lately, I've spoken to a few members on the forum that seem to talk exactly like ChatGPT or other AI bots. Their responses, replies to threads or even their entire profile seems AI generated, totally unnatural. Could it be possible that AI bots started signing up here? If so, what would even be the endgoal?

Bots have always been on the internet, but for them to respond or act as human I don't know man.
Could you give us an example ?

I have wondered this as lately, I will see someone post a thread, and then an hour later, or a day later, there is a thread with almost the exact same title and topic. It is getting really old and I find myself less inclined to spend any time here if half the threads are just repeats of things that have been made in the last 24 hours,

Many here are neurodivergent in some way or other, and neurodivergence often presents as stilted speech, robotic manner, not following social cues -- "totally unnatural", as you put it. I am quite confident there aren't any bots autonomously posting on this forum, and I think we should be careful about accusing people of it.

I agree that I don't feel like I've been seeing this either. But maybe I'm just oblivious to AI since I really don't know anything about it. It's not until someone points out to me that a post could possibly be AI that I start to consider it.

And I think the user above makes an excellent point. I have learned on this site to just shrug off certain minor irritations especially knowing if they're neurodivergent.

Is it even possible for a bot to create an account and navigate the forum? It may be more likely that a person can use the help of AI to write up a post.

The lines of reality get increasingly blurred with AI. It's barely just begun, and it's already confusing and unsettling.

I've seen one person who very obviously uses AI to generate their replies, but that's it. I can't remember their username, and I don't know if they're even still active, but I saw them around fairly recently. Other than that, I don't think this site is being overrun by bots… yet?

It's incredibly obvious to spot AI generated text once you know what to look for. Very distinct from neurodivergent speech.

Dont know about a botnet (like reddit or fb) but I have seen legit copy paste LLM slop as responses, then edited later to remove the "let me write that for you" type text. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to real (probably too young to be on this site) people becoming meat proxys. If it is a botnet, I image the end goal would be to ruin the reputation of the site and provide astroturfed evidence to ban it within their country.

To be fair, I do use Grammarly to make sure my sentences flow correctly, but I don't know if that makes them come off as AI-generated or not. :/

are the suicide bots in the room with us right now?.......

yes.. you have things like Grok Bot and openclaw stuff.. you give them access to all your accounts and stuff and they can use your computer for you and you just tell them what you want done..

or you don't even have to use those really (sorry i do programming and being pedantic right now but), you can create the account manually your self but then make a script/program that just scrapes the new posts that people post and then you copy the text from the OP user and automatically run it through some AI bot (you could even be running some thing like qwen locally or some thing) and then automatically post back the response on to the site..

welcome to the future marty..

Omg I had no idea!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that. That's really interesting. Unsettling, but really interesting.

When I read something on a forum, I always take what they say as if they're making it up. I ask myself if that could be real for someone else and if it is, then I reply if I think what I say may be of use to someone. I guess that would apply to bots too. I have to give this a think. Again, thank you for your explanation.

listen, i am neurodivergent myself and i have a very inconsistent way of speaking, english is also not my main language, and im not throwing any labels at anybody, but i cant help but notice how some users are always online, post a bunch of random stuff that seem copy pasted and their replies feel like talking to ChatGPT, which i have for a while, and you can just notice the patterns in the sentences and all. now, if they re real people that just use AI for their replies, which is very possible, why would they even bother?

Hey, you know how with languages there are different skills and stuff? Like, someone can know enough english to read, but not really enough to write or speak. I used to get sent to english olympiads at school so I was pretty good at reading, writing and listening, but I completely sucked at speaking. for other people on this forum, it might be the other way around

Lol I posted threads before AI chatbots were popular. But speaking about the threads that are recommended. There is my thread recommended: "If there were indicators a member on here plays an online persona that isn't real - would you make it public?" which was closed. I have used an AI chatbot to check whether someone fakes an identity on here. Because there were things that were very suspicious to me and I wasn't sure whether I should trust them. Beforehand I trusted this member a lot more than many others on here. I had private conversations with them that were somewhat weird. And after my digging I was quite certain that the role this person plays on here isn't real. I felt quite naive realizing that. The threads of that person are a weird combination of transcripts of online videos, own effort (probably a lot) and AI chatbot usage. Personally, I often use AI chatbots for feedback but I don't use them to fake an identity. And when I am using Grok for self-referential joke threads I am usually transparent about it.

Sometimes it happens by accident. I've deleted posts because I'll make one then scroll afterwards to find someone made a similar post.

I also assume some other people get "inspiration" (idk a better word) and make their own post to get more attention for their issue instead of sticking to the thread made about the subject.

A good portion could be bots though. Idk.

I'm not neurodivergent, but I'm fully aware that I write in a very stilted manner, and I've been accused of being a chatbot before (not here). My writing style probably stems from a combination of reading way too many old books and simply wanting to appear eloquent.

I try to be extra precise with my language here on SaSu in the interest of being considerate and responsible when discussing sensitive topics with people who are struggling.

I imagine most of the people starting similar threads every few days are either simply not utilizing the search bar, or browsing past the first page or two of the sub-forum they're in, or are uncomfortable bumping "old" threads. I'm not ruling out bots being on the forum, but I personally barely use AI and have no ability to detect them either way, so I withhold judgment.

To be fair, I do use Grammarly to make sure my sentences flow correctly, but I don't know if that makes them come off as AI-generated or not. :/

This has unlocked a new and terrible aspect of neuroticism for me to manifest. Oh no. Oh no no no...

If you could direct me to some reliable resources or give me some tips for identifying AI generated text vs. neurodivergent writing I'd be very appreciative, I want to call out AI spammers without running the risk of mistakenly going off on someone who just has AI-like typing habits.
