In past couple days another member shared a video of a girl who survived a gunshot to head suicide. Just thought to add on to that, to further spread awareness

Here is a HORRIBLE case of a man who had a failed shotgun to head suicide. Warning - it is pretty graphic video

I believe both of them made a mistake by aiming it from under the chin. For those considering similar methods, make sure to do proper research. Last thing you want is to even make your life 100 times worst in a blink of an eye, when CTB was suppose to be the way out of your current problems

This frustrates me that assisted suicide is not more available to those suffering, so poor people like them need to resort to these solutions

That's why I prefer to shoot in the temple, the risks seem to be much lower even though studies say otherwise. I would leave a spare bullet in case I didn't die right away.

Exactly. Makes zero sense. He is literally 1% close to dying. The previous 99% effort is already done. Why not just let it be?? It is completely obvious he does not want to live at all

What the hell is he going to do if he continues to live?? After this horrific experience, what if he just finds another way to suicide instead in the future?

Is he going to happily start a family? Is he going to chase some new passion, or secure some new beautiful career?? Is it even going to be easy to find a proper job?? Or is he just going to cry and suffer in pain, go crazy, and have nightmares every night??

There is not a SINGLE valid reason to still try to stitch and patch him back up, just so can continue this nightmare, especially when either way, eventually he'll still die anyways of old age

He is a full mature adult. Not children. Why can't he at least legally decide if he wants to live or die, especially under this extreme scenario???

Budd Dwyer isn't a great example tbh. He was successful, but probably mostly because of how powerful the gun was and some luck too.

You don't really want to be in a panicked and rushed state when doing something like this. You need to be calm with no external distractions. It's unlikely that Dwyer got a direct hit on the brainstem, but likely still did enough damage to succeed. The same is true of the Ronnie mcnutt video, he got a bit lucky (thankfully) but I would not be recommending anyone to follow their methods, because there were flaws in what they did.

Actually I believe the best way to do it is with the muzzle in your mouth! Here's a really good anatomical diagram that at the very least shows where the "happy spot" is. I would recommend reading the firearms thread in the resource compilation thread on SaSu, but I'll just sum up that I believe you're supposed to tilt upwards approximately 30 degrees because then it'll travel through the Medulla Oblongata aka the brainstem, causing near-instantaneous death.

You can see the medulla labeled in this diagram, so you can kind of estimate where exactly you should be aiming. Please be careful about what information you take! I would take mine with a grain of salt as I'm not entirely sure, but I believe I've read before on SaSu that the desired angle is 30 degrees, and the firearms thread talks about the medulla oblongata being your desired target.

You know, this whole situation could have been avoided if our society wasn't so against allowing people the right to die on their own terms. Now, thanks to them, there are a whole bunch of cases of people who have had their lives become even worse just because they can't access safe and reliable ctb methods and instead have to use riskier methods that can easily go wrong, like with the case of this poor man.

Aiming at yourself is awkward and you can't see the gun so you're basically shooting blind, I'm not surprised people fail sometimes. You've shot yourself in such a way as you're not bleeding perfusley. It will take some time to die. Now the woodland creatures and insects get your scent and start to eat you. That is nightmare scenario #2654 for me to imagine and keep me from CTBing with a gun. I hate the way my mind works.

It seems like when it comes to suicide, you need redundancy, e.g. shooting yourself, while standing on the edge of a skyscraper, after taking SN. Meanwhile, some 23 year old with a good life might be walking down the street, get hit by a bird and die on the spot.

It's also frustrating that even where available the laws are so restrictive that most ethical doctors are nervous and won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

My SO and my in law both worked as HCAs in palliative care and dementia patients have to balance the progression of their disease with their assisted suicides because in order to get it you have to be "in sound mind" which means that if your symptoms have progressed too far, even if you've made your decision clear and in writing, you can't get it.

That also means that, since depression is considered a mental illness, assisted suicide isn't available for people with chronic depression.

With a shotgun, literally anywhere top of nose up will kill very quickly
And to the side of head, even subsonic .22 rounds will work, aiming will not be too difficult, If you follow basic anatomy

Only under the neck, aimed at the back of head would work
Under your chin, you will blow your face off, I mean look at your chin
But then feel the bony protrusion at your neck
Position the gun directly under that
Angle the gun to where it is pointed at back of head, to mid brain
This is what Ronnie mcnutt did, and it actually worked since he aimed his weapon under his neck, not chin, at an angle the projectile, likely a slug, was able to travel up too his brain and kill instantly
