Does anybody else here have excessive sweating?

Once I hit puberty, I started to sweat badly on my palms and soles, as well as other places but those aren't so bad. The sweating interferes with my daily life. It is hard to hold things, write and not make the paper wet.. As well as I am always wearing socks so that I don't slip from my own sweaty feet.

This has been a massive problem in my life and I've even thought about chopping off my hands and feet. (Just thoughts).

It also makes professional atmospheres awkward as I cannot shake hands with anybody and if I do, I feel disgusting and unclean even though my hands ARE clean.

It's definitely a solid trigger for my suicidal thoughts and is a big reason as to why I'd like to ctb..

If anyone else knows how this feels, please share your experiences!

Yes, when I work out, I sweet more than normal people!
I used to play a dancing game called "Pump It Up" and oh my gosh, I sweated so much that people wouldn't come close to me lol.
Still, not a reason to ctb. It's just sweet and a good deodorant/antiperspirant always helps.

I actually suffer from a condition called Hyperhydrosis and it heavily affects people's daily lives. Nothing I have tried works for the sweat. The doctor has even given me things and ideas for it and those don't work either. I sweat through every deodorant/antiperspirant. I used drysol on my palms and it didn't work. I sweat through that too. To people, it's "just sweat", but when you actually can't live your life or do anything because it affects the body parts you use mainly to go about your day, it makes you want to die. Not only do I sweat, it DRIPS from my palms and soles as if I'd just washed my hands and didn't dry them.

However, this isn't my main reason for the wish to ctb, but it sure is one of them.

Thanks for the link! I've already done my research and yes, I have HH. Nothing I've tried, including medically has worked.

I have actually heard that! Makes me a bit nervous, though.. I can't imagine how much that would cost.

I used to have sweaty handpalms, I don't know how but it got less, luckily. However I know exactly what you mean with feeling unclean, even though that's not the case at all.
When I was younger I had piano lessons, and just because my hands would always sweat so much (especially when I was playing piano for some reason), I would always get really nervous, because the teacher could literally see it on the piano, that was always really embarrassing also. (I absolutely don't want to compare this to what you're going through, because this is such a small thing, just wanted to let you know that I can imagine that it can also be embarrassing in social situations)

I'm so sorry that you haven't found a solution for it, I hope there will be something possible in the future or that it will get less. I understand that it makes your life much more difficult, because it affects many aspects of your life.

I can imagine it must be hard for you to have this problem, so I searched a little bit about whether there are opportunities to solve it, and like others mentioned earlier, I think there must be some things that are possible. I didn't really get into it though, but if there is something you can't find, you can always ask it of course, we can always try to search with you! Did you ever go to the doctor or something because of this?

Because you mentioned that the excessive sweating is a big reason for why you want to ctb, I really hope that there's something possible for you to solve this, so you can hopefully live a better life again.
I'm sorry, I was typing my last post before you posted yours :ahhha:

Hey, thanks for your input! I have seen my doctor about it and have gone through several treatments. So far the only thing I think I haven't done is Botox, but I'm not too sure how I feel about that, plus the costs.

I also had piano lessons as well and it was the same. The sweat even makes it hard to use my fingerprint on my phone or even scroll up and down pages.

If I figure anything out that could fix it up, I'll probably make a post in a different category.

The sweat is not my only reason for wanting to ctb. It's a big reason but it doesn't even come close to my main concerns.

Hyperhidrosis sucks. Clammy hands and constantly trying to keep cool. I remember once at work during a busy time my shirt got so damp a colleague thought I'd somehow wet myself!

Oh boy... Yep, I sweat heavily between my legs too and my pants will get wet pretty fast. Worst thing is going out into the cold when that happens!!!

Keeping cool can help, but my dumb ass sweats all year round. I'll have freezing cold hands but they'll be sweating buckets.

The increased chance of getting frostbite isn't so fun either.

I also sweat all year round, but it's definitely worse in summer (or when I'm anxious.) Tend to wear thin, quick drying sportswear (even in winter.) Luckily it rarely gets cold enough for frostbite here.

I usually sweat the most under my breast, underarms and hands. I recently started using a specific antiperspirant for my breast and underarms and it seems to be working :)

I dont think the botox is too expensive but it sounds like you would need it in lots of areas and I think it needs to be topped up every six months.

Have you had your hormones checked?

Are you taking any additional medications? Some medications, such as antidepressants, can increase sweating.

Sweating has been bad ever since puberty and I didn't start antidepressants until some time later. The amount of sweating hasn't changed, it's just always been terrible.. Haha.

Maybe it's my hormones. Considering when it started... Will have to ask the doc. I'm seeing him next week anyway!

Used to be on Effexor ages ago, but I'm taking Zoloft now. Which is a medication I was taken off of at one point and I told the doctor he had to put me back on it or it wouldn't be pretty. It's one of the only ones that works for me. At least a bit, plus Wellbutrin. I find that they compliment each other well and keep me just behind the line before the cliff, you know?

I just need to get my anxiety in check, so I'm going through a lot of medications for that.

Yeah I know what you mean Effexor probably saved my life,I was on it for three years and came off it about three years ago no. I was on the maximum dose and It was horrible to come off. Im not allowed to take meds at the moment so I am just having to struggle through my current depression.

My anxiety is really bad at the moment too.

It sounds mega cliché but if I'm anxious and I don't have anything for it, I just try my best to take deep, calm breaths.

Of course, it doesn't work all the time! But I try.

Another thing that can help is chewing gum. It tricks the brain into thinking you're eating, which means you are away from danger if you can chill and munch on something. I know it definitely helps me if I'm anxious on car rides, plane rides, even just out for a walk or meeting someone new.

And as I said about the breathing, no, it doesn't always work but it doesn't hurt to try!

I hope that you feel much better sooner than later, my friend. x

Thank you,Ive tried breathing and meditation for the anxiety which does help a little but it's a kinda short lived. I keep a sweet, like haribo or something tucked inside my lip to stop my mouth getting dry which helps as one of the main symptoms of my anxiety is gagging but not actually throwing up. The haribo seems to help that Ive been doing it for years.

Ive been pretty much anxiety and depression free for a couple of years now but a recent bad break up has knocked me back to square one. If I dont come out the other side of it soon Im out of here,I cant keep going through these feelings x

I think it might be a good idea to go to your Doctor and tell them what's going on and how it's affecting your life.
They could prescribe a product called " Anhydrol "
It's like a deodorant that you roll on a couple of times a week and it stops sweating. I've used it myself before. It does work. It stings though.
o hope you find a solution. Good luck.
I meant to say it stops excess sweating.. which is called Hyperhidrossis.

It's called mitchum antiperspirant deodorant :)
That never worked for me...

Nothing I have tried works for the sweat.
Have you tried Driclor or Anhydrol Forte? It comes as a liquid solution in a roll-on. I use it on my under-arms (the underground can get hot in the summer). A few hours before bed; shower and dry yourself completely, then wait 20-30 minutes for your skin to completely dry, and apply it lightly over the affected area (using an up-down motion). In the morning, just rinse it off when you shower, and apply any deodorants or products that you normally would.

I started doing it every night at first, but after a while, I only had to do it once or twice a week. It works by blocking the sweat ducts where you've applied it, so you'll still get that sweating sensation, but your skin will be completely dry. Here's a few things I've learnt over the years:
  • Apply to a small area first - somewhere like a finger/hand and leave for 24 hours (allergy test)
  • Apply lightly! if you apply too much then it'll burn/sting like hell. A little goes a long way - and usually it'll take a few days before you start to notice dramatic improvement.
  • If it starts burning/stinging as soon as you've applied it - it's because your skin was still wet. Sitting in-front of a pedestal fan before/after applying (but not during application) helped me. I'd sit there for a while with my hands on my head like I was being arrested. Once it's dry, it'll leave a white-powdery residue, so you know it's cured.
  • If you sweat whilst sleeping, keep a fan pointed at/over you during the night, otherwise you'll wake up with a painful rash wherever you've sweated
  • DO NOT let it get anywhere near your eyes, any cuts/spots/acne, or broken skin.
I can't think of anything else at the moment but feel free to PM me if you have questions and don't want to ask publicly.

EDIT: Driclor and AF are both brand-names for Aluminium Chloride Hexahydrate solution, so if you can't find either in Canada, search for a generic version instead (it just has to be 20% w/w). Just buy whichever one is cheapest. You can also get wet-wipes (that contain the solution) but I've never tried them.

I did some research about surgery. Found a thread where a woman had it done, and yes the palm sweating stopped, but it all moved to her bottom, so she was constantly sweating from her ass... Can also cause complications, so I'm kind of hesitant, but I've gotten to the point where I don't care much about the risks because I'm already going through hell, if there's a chance at all for it to stop, I want to give it a go.
