  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

As for the people saying that giving the government the power to ban people from having kids will lead to them abusing the power, I honestly think that if the government wants to harm groups of people they don't like, they will either make a reason to do it, do it and retroactively justify it, or just do it and not tell anyone. People are sterilized at the border all the time and that's not a power the government has. I don't think the scale or likelihood of oppression happening will increase either. Basically, if the government wants to do something, they will do it and there is no stopping or preventing them. This isn't like banning guns where crime would go down. In a case like that, a random criminal with a gun is outmatched by the police and can be stopped. Who will stop an entire country? If the country has a giant military, then probably nobody.

Go watch "the man with 100 children" and you'll realize its a few white supremacist deadbeat fucks who are literally attempting in their words to "bleach africa" and other POC nations. When someone fathers 3000 children, I give less a fuck about people who are poor and in a bad position that are trying the best they can do in a hellscape created by greed and callousness than these random nazi bros going to every country they can. lying about how many kids theyve "helped father", and creating a world full of fucking incest victims that don't even know because "spreading their great white seed" is some game to them.

Hate the monsters, not the people.

Honestly I keep coming back to this post and don't know what to do about this belief I have. Everyone in this thread says I'm wrong but my brain says otherwise and nobody provides justification that I don't have a response to. When I make a counterpoint people also tend to assume that I'm some malicious person. What can I do to change my belief if everybody thinks they're above me and doesn't want to prove me wrong? I can't find discussions about this anywhere else online that don't also devolve into name calling. I don't know what to do.

Don't worry, you're right. People are hurt by the truth, and that's what happens.

It's a very complicated issue really. I do sympathise with the idea behind it. It would seek to try to prevent the likelihood of suffering plus, the social cost to reduce that suffering.

It's no guarantee though that a person born poor or with a disability will be either unhappy or unsuccessful. There have been genuine rags to riches stories. Happiness is even more difficult to predict. So- it's effectively making choices/ predictions about how a person's life will play out. Which is probably not very accurate.

It would parallel natural selection- which we have largely eradicated in humans but which we can probably understand the need for in nature. The problem with re-implementing it with humans as I see it is full of human problems. What traits do we most value and, what traits do we want bred out? Do the traits we value benefit everyone? Asides from physical/ mental illness, will we start delving into character 'defects'? Will we breed out shyness and social anxiety? Are those dispositions even inherited or, are they learnt? Still- will the qualities we value be beneficial to the race as a whole?

Taking another viewpoint, what about what good or damage a person will likely do to others? Are there certain traits/ personality disorders that we should try to breed out? I'd argue that probably people with sociopathic, narcissistic and psychopathic tendencies sometimes do tremendous damage to others. They also frequently do exceptionally well in this world! If we are trying to avoid suffering though- should they not be neutered when they start to exhibit worryingly callous behaviour? Probably not because again- we can't fully predict how they or their children will eventually turn out. If we're aiming for 'survival of the fittest' though- that would likely benefit those who are more ruthless. Wouldn't empathy get in the way? What would that world look like though? If everyone was that ruthless?

I suppose my hope is that most people will stop to think about how wise or fair it is to bring a child into this. Fully consider how entirely they can prepare them for this world and protect them from harm. I actually doubt many parents can. No matter how rich or healthy they are. I have an anti-natilist bias in general though.
