I can't swim and don't plan on learning, so if I get in deep enough water, survival instinct won't be a problem.

Thinking about booking a round trip ticket. Spending a few days exploring the island and then just walking into the ocean until it's too deep. I figure since it's still America it would be easy to get my body shipped back to the states.

The only thing I worry about is getting rescued, but I would do it early morning. I feel bad for whoever finds my body, but it's not my fault society refuses to give us easy methods.

Only thing I'd imagine could present a challenge would be survival instinct kicking in whilst you're going under, as you'll be able to scramble back onto the point where you can reach the bottom. It takes an immense amount of willpower to hold yourself under the water after that first mouthfull of water up your nose.
It would have more chance of success I'd suggest if you could get a small boat (or even a rubber ring or lifebelt) and get well out from shore before jumping out the boat as far as you can or deflating the ring.
Best wishes whatever your final decision.

Big No
I think Survival Instinct will kick in regardless, and with drowning it does so pretty bad. The brain just doesn't like that At All.
Also do you plan to just walk? like straight into the ocean from the shore until you can't touch the bottom with your tips or...
if so forgive me but that doesn't seem like a good plan at all. I wouldn't depend on just that for a method. If you were to drop from a boat at some distnace from shore or smth maybe even, survival instinct would still kick in hard but if you can't swim there is little you can do I guess, but having to push through the water and waves and into drowning, like phisically take every step and keep at it sounds awful and I don't think many people can do that.
Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my opinion I wouldn't do that for sure.
Also I don't know if you've looked into the process of drowning. There are threads I remember some, I think you should If you haven't it is not great and not just from the survival instinct side of it. I considered it myself but I can't recommend it either.
whatever you do lots of hugs <3

I honestly think, if I tried this plan, I would end up on the return flight feeling even worse. Maybe you're different, I trust you know yourself. I hope you find peace.

I figured it wouldn't be as easy I was daydreaming about in my head. :(

The only reason I don't want to get a boat and then fall off of it is because I don't want my family to be on the hook for the cost of the boat after I'm dead. I'm 1-2 years before doing it because I want to save up enough money to leave my mom, so that would defeat the purpose.

I know drowning is a horrible death, but I don't see any other option. I can't kill myself in my apartment because my estate would be on the hook for repairs and I'm trying to leave as much money as possible.
It's crazy how I read about people accidentally drowning in the Caribbean all the time but doing it intentionally is so hard.
