I hear others say that they want to leave their mark on the world. That they want to be remembered. They want to do good. They want to help people. They want to be recalled fondly for posterity—a legacy to persist for an eternity in their stead. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has heard others express dread at the notion of how minute they are amidst the grand scheme of the world, of the universe.

But what is so wrong with fading into obscurity? I do not want to be remembered, nor do I want a funeral. I don't want my name written in books or spoken aloud, nor do I want photos of me to live on. I'd rather not be a martyr for the 'crisis' of suicide, least of all. I find our relative insignificance something to take solace in, not resent.

I know I won't exactly possess the faculties to feel bad about others remembering me after my death, and I know it's not my place to prevent those close to me from mourning my eventual demise, but I cannot change how I feel. Anyone else feel similarly?

If anyone uses my suicide for political reasons, I will haunt them by causing them a lifetime of minor inconveniences for the rest of their life. So if people don't want to step on a Lego going to the bathroom at night, have a random boner during a family outing, or have bad case of flatulence during sex, they better not remember me.

A perfect death would be one in which I successfully exit this life but also fade away from people's memories. I too want to be forgotten.

Attention, #FixThe26, make me a martyr for your cause. Please and thank you.

Same. Why would I want to be remembered if I don't even like myself?

The thought of people circulating photos of me to cherish is positively repulsive.

Leaving a mark on the world? As if having kids & grandkids constitutes accomplishing that. :pfff: 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999...% of them fools gon' fade into obscurity.

Yup. Everybody will be forgotten, & I'm not even talking about the unimaginably distant future. Megalomaniacs like Bezos & Musk can send as many metal phallic objects into space as they want, only history nerds will remember their names in a century.

And it's not like incredibly famous dead people like Cleopatra or Napoleon are fucking floating somewhere over the rainbow & enjoying the fact that we still know who they were. :))

Not having funeral nor obituary in paper - cremated and ashes spread at landfill per stipulated wishes, which must be adhered to because of State law. Could care less if anyone ever remembered me .....

Yeah, if you have wishes like no funeral and such, put that into a will. That is in your control. What isn't is how and if people remember you. Certainly, you can't take any pictures they have of you back. Some solace to you would be, after a few generations pass, the fact that, eventually, no one knows who we were. All of our memories fade away because the people holding them fade away, too.

I don't want to be remember either ...

Ego has taught me a lot of stuff about myself and my relationship with others, i focused on myself and only myself for so long that i couldn't really see behind that, the situation it's not different now, the difference is i let go of most people I knew, because it was not going anywhere, and my death would probably affect them less if the time and the memories faded away slowly.

I feel like everything in this world is weird, my own presence bothers me, i would like to be forgotten by everyone, even if my heart wants my boyfriend to remember me i know that it would be better if we never met, he's going to be hurt and I can't change that, that also happens with my family.

I want to drown in the darkness of not existing.

I was thinking about this today. I'd get rid of my entire digital archive and possibly pre-pay for a funeral-less cremation, which happens to also be the cheapest option.

I do not want to be remembered, if it was up to me, I would completely disappear and erase my whole existence. We will all be forgotten about someday, our lives are so temporary and meaningless, they do not matter and that thought is comforting. Eventually one day all my suffering will end and I will finally be at peace

I would do the same, that way my family will feel no sadness.

It's not up to you how others act or what they think about. Its out with all reasonable levels of control. Focus on your own actions, not that of people who subsequently dont actually matter in the grand scheme.
