I go through these weird periods where despite loving my job, friends, and family, I just…want to go away. I have this fantasy of taking just enough of something to be hospitalized for a while so I can justify taking a step back from my life. Work isn't even busy right now. I don't know why it feels so overwhelming anyway. I'm on antidepressants, see a therapist every week. I have a lot of good days. But these bad days trip me up so bad.

So how does one get a brief hospitalization? Ibuprofen overdose? Mild poison? Idk.

Have you ever tried guided meditation?? It helps me get away without anyone knowing what I am thinking. Because if they knew what I was thinking, I'm pretty damn sure I'd be institutionalized for a long, LONG time.😬😬

I dont know where you live and your situation with insurance and so on but if you need a pause and ideally want to be hospitalized (I get that, I needed it too even though I was "just very tired"), there should be a better way than to force it by OD´ing, no? And maybe its also more unlikely that you´ll get the treatment you need? I went to a (good) mental clinic, registered myself and had to wait a few months.

By get away I mean like…not having to be a part of society

In the U.S. you can be held for 72 hrs under the Brady bill if you're considered a threat to yourself or others. You can prolong that I guess if you're still considered a threat after that. I'm curious why not just go on vacation or take time off work and stay at home?

staying at home is different than getting away from society. i think that you also can't take random vacations since you might be fired for it. i figure what @nothirdact is talking about is wanting to escape things in general rather than just be at home because it feels like there isn't a way to get away from their own thoughts even if they're at home.

i also think about being hospitalized a lot. it's too much money for me to actually do since my parents have to pay the bill. it makes me more of a burden when i get involuntarily sent to the hospital instead of just sucking things up. it feels like there isn't really a way to truly escape things because anything you do will end up costing you money and make you risk homelessness.

To get hospitalized, you can tell the ER social worker that you have a plan (e.g. I will hang myself), means (e.g. I have a rope and an anchor point at my house), and intent (e.g. I am going to hang myself using the rope and anchor point at my house). Keep emphasizing that you don't think you can resist the urge to hurt yourself.

if you want to be hospitalized just tell you terapist what you told us
"i dont want to kill your self but im thinking about taking an overdose, i want help can i be hospitalized?"

or call 911 and say your about to kill yourself that will also work, dont even need to "try" just say you about to.

overdose purely to get hospitalized are not the way to go about this

Yes, this is what I was getting at. Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing these feelings

Hating every minute of being alive.

I relate a lot to this. Contemplated for months about going to the hospital. Kinda just terrified to fo so. It might've been possible with some support. My bare minimum is being able to have single room and keep my phone otherwise I'd be more distressing. But still personally scared of the hospital so.

I think its worth it to try. Read mang experiences on here amd some have been good or a good break from life kinda thing. Maybe researching dif hospitals and such could help to see if any vibe more than others.

They also have a thing called safe beds/crisis beds that I've experienced in dif cities. Like a homd to stay in for a couple days up to a week. Structure depends on the place.

That could be something worth looking into/if that exists in your area.

Hope you find the peace & comfort you are looking for.
