  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I'm fairly certain that organ donation is not going to be possible with death from SN. Even if it was a short time after death, I plan on having a long time (a couple/few days) afterward so I'm not found and "rescued". I am planing to ctb in a hotel, and I want to make sure if somehow this attempt fails and I end up waking up, that I am not found in a semi-conscious state and taken against my will somewhere.

That said I would really like to donate my brain to science. My reason for suicide is depression that I have struggled with all of my life. If somehow my diseased brain can help other people with the same affliction, that would make me very happy (well, as happy as I can feel).

Looking online, the only place I can find in the US for brain donation where it mentions depression is https://braindonorproject.org/. I'm also thinking about donating the rest of my body, but there seem to be a ton of places for that and I don't know how it works when multiple donation places are involved.

Has anyone else thought about this?

I hope that some of my organs (kidneys, liver, maybe heart) will be used for transplants

I don't think they really could use them for transplants after a chemical poisoning or really as much for science because it changes all of the blood in the body. I'm not positive though how much damage a natural death vs SN induced would affect their ability to study things, but I think they would want a more accurate study to be done instead of one with SN as a variable.

please let us know. Based on my research, death by suicide is considered suspecious and requires autopsy in certain circumstances. Autopsy complicates the decision to donate body to science.

They assigned me to a specific brain bank and I got a form to complete the enrollment. It's really long with extensive medical history. I haven't really gone though it yet, all of the questions are intimidating. It also looks like it might not even work due to the likely time of death and time of discovery (which I want to pad by a couple of days in case of failure).

I've been thinking about it. I also suffer from depression. I live in UK though. Anybody knows if it's possible to donate your brain for research in UK?
I'd like to donate some of my organs also, but I don't see how that would be possible. I they find you too early after you ctb, they will rush you to an intensive unit. There's a chance that you will die there and they will be able to donate your organs but there's also a chance that they will "save" you and you'll end up being a vegetable. That really scares me.

Particularly this story:

That story is awful. God it's horrible...poor man. That just shows how important it is to be alone and not let anyone know about your plans!!

This could have been written by me. I 100% want to donate my brain and organs. Although my brain donation was for migraine research instead of depression (but I suffer from both). And sadly bc I'm planning on SN too and won't be found until too late this won't be possible. It saddens me that I can't at least help anyone from my death.

Where I live if you are considered a suicide death then your organs can not be donated due to having to get a coroners report done and all of that sort of thing.
I want to donate my organs, but sadly can not be done if it is a suspected suicide.

I know. However I gonna ctb by full suspension. Do you know if taking organs for transplants would be possible in such case?

I honestly don't believe so. If you think about a majority of people that donate they're in the hospital after an accident or a fall and trying to be saved, my friend hit his head really hard on a counter when he fell and ended up a vegetable on life support but was able to donate a lot of his organs. I'm not really knowledgeable about this, but I'd imagine if someone after they pass isn't in a hospital in 24-48 hours then the organs aren't usable e.g. if a heart has to be transported in 6 hours otherwise it can't be used.
I think with suicides they just call the coroner instead of medical services if there's no pulse.

Does SN render organs obsolete for donation? I'm unsure. I thought that it only affects the blood, binding to it reversibly. Can't the blood be drained from the organs to be donated? Anyway, the nitrite ions bound to the haemoglobin in the blood can be unbound by use of certain compounds (methylene blue, this is used on SN patients in the hospital), not to mention the body naturally has enzymes (MetHb reductase) to reverse it.

Keep in mind that some body donation companies/services will outright refuse a body if it was the result of a suicide. So be sure to look into a given company's terms and guidelines.

Can anyone provide a list of methods that allow you to donate such things to science afterwords.
That should be sticky'd at the top
