Ok, its been a while but i have been given a plan on how to ask to see a psychologist/psycharatrist for BPD and eventually get to do the other stuff for it but, its all very costly and me and my family cant fully afford i., my options are to ask NDIS about fudning it or (if thry say no) just save up a bunch of money until im able to afford it myself.

but, i waz looking up about NDIS coverin for stuff like these and i couldnt find a solid yes or no answer, i dont trust the AI overview so i just ignore it.

idk bht, if someone was/is on NDIS, do they fund these things?

i dont have access to my NDIS since my mum has control over it currently since i was pretty young and currently, so she deals with calling them.

So, I'm not on NDIS, but I know that most disability plans in the USA where I live won't cover stuff unless you get a diagnosis. Unfortunately, treatment for BPD can be a bit finicky. Saving up might be your only option.

My advice:

What I can do is send you all the resources I have on DBT self help, including resources that are specifically made for people with neurodevelopmental disorders and BPD.

I'd also suggest specifically making sure that if you save up, make sure the therapist works with BPD, trauma, and autism. Autism can complicate BPD treatment (I say this from the perspective of someone with a BPD/autistic family member, and also someone who has both disorders myself), and trauma is the root of BPD, so you'll need someone practiced in treating it.

Avoid therapists who focus on treating symptoms instead of the root cause, and also avoid therapists who talk about "narcissistic abuse recovery." Believe what you will about "narc abuse" (many people here already know my take on it), but as someone who had a therapist like that, they will not treat you properly.

Any therapist who demonizes NPD, a sister diagnosis to BPD, will not be able to handle the more negative traits you have from BPD. Not to mention that a high percentage of Borderlines fit the NPD criteria, and it is important to be able to have a therapist who can recognize that.

I live in australia so idk how NDIS fully works or if its similar like how it is in USA because of how many restrictions are in place because of those whom abused the system for random stuff (idk what it is people did), its how i hear an ongoing joke about junkies begging for people to do a test for them so they stay on NDIS or some other support thing.

I will try to save up, i dont have a bank or cards to myself because i havent done another for it just yet (thankfully have an age of proof card). i love spending money and will just buy almost whatever because i like it but, ill be careful of that.

I'll keep in mind to look out for therapists who work in those areas as well.

though, how do u find the right person for these? ive never researched on any therapists and such since i usually went to wellbeing in my 1st highschool and my mum would just sign me up for headspace (4 fails + 2 extra i pulled out from because i felt embarrassed), i had a psychologist at one point but, hated it since she went completely off track.

feel free to send in resources u have! im thankful for ur replies, i usually look back at them since it feels very informative.

Depends. Do you have a way to make phone calls without your mom helping? Psychology Today has lists of therapists in your area, with tags/descriptions of what they treat, but it would be best to call or email the therapists to ask more about if they can help your specific situation.

Some therapists do a free intake appointment so they can introduce you to their treatments and get to know you, and often times there is a sliding scale payment plan for actual appointments. Definitely ask about that.

Now, I'm not sure if this is possible with NDIS, but sometimes you can call your insurance (in this case it would be your disability plan) or go to their website and they will show what therapists in your area are covered. Make sure to keep in mind whether you watch video appointments or in-person (if it's accessible), because that can broaden your range. I had to do this back when I was on Medicaid, so I'm a bit rusty.

Anyway, here are the resources:

DBT resource site: https://dbt.tools/index.php

Full DBT guide book PDF:

DBT workbook for multiply-neurodivergent people in general, specifically neurodivergencies that cause meltdowns, sensory differences, etc! It is 10 bucks to download as a digital copy (but I have a copy if you really need it free right now):

tysm for the resources!

i dont make phone calls and im not sure if they require the person who has control over the account to make calls. i also suck at phone calls because of social anxiety, i dont know what to say or spit my words out so itd be nearly pointless for me to do it. i'll be sure to check out Psychology Today as well! luckily i can do emails but, im not the best with formatting but, i'll see whats possible.

thats very interesting! ive never heard of a free intake appointment before i hope id be able to find something like that!

thank you so much again! this helps me to understand the process better and what to look for! im very thankful. i'll keep everything in mind and make sure to keep note of it. thank you!

Glad to help! Also don't worry too much about formatting. My mom obsessively convinced me that I had to format perfectly, but typing the way you usually do might be best to give any therapist an honest example of how your disabilities affect you. As long as it's readable, you'll probably be fine! Good luck!
