Dreadful damage, dreadful destiny

I've taken part in at least four of them since turning 18 and am always on the look out for new ones in my area. I find it really mutually beneficial and love giving back to science when I can. The majority of studies I've taken part in revolve around mental health so in the future it might be more understood.

Have any of you done a clinical trial? Would you give it a go if you had the opportunity? Why or why not?

The only studies I've done were ones where I pretended to be "normal" / no history as a survivor of psychiatry or whatever... they paid decently.

That's certainly one way to do it! I've had some pay decently too, one paid me 1200 at the end of the time although I had to go through a lot to get there. Lowest one with pay was 15 though

I have searched for research studies in my area of illness. I would be more motivated to do it if I wasn't so terrified of social situations.

I'm trying to take part in that Japanese vaccine research but so far little luck. I've never been in a research study, though I have taken those "beer money" researches online.

I've never been part of a clinical trial but I've participated in some research on mental illness, questionnaires and stuff.
If I was in proper physical health, I would love to do clinical trials to make some quick money.

Yes. IV ketamine study close to 10 years ago. I was in the control arm, unfortunately, so no K for me, but I made about $2K because it was a really long study and required a ton of time at the study location. Did another study on some infrared light thing but had to drop out due to needing a med change. Now that my diagnosis has been changed to BP2 I probably won't be able to get into any studies ever again, though. They only want unipolar people.

Just know that it's really hard to get into studies if you're on medication, and they'll refuse you flat out if you tell them you have suicidal ideation (insurance/liability bullshit).

I've done tons of studies. Made a tiny bit of money on some of them. I have chiefly joined them for some tiny bit of human contact. I know, how pathetic.

Who cares what the purpose was? You helped further a body of knowledge in health care.

I've done a few while in university - it felt great to be able to help someone's research and it either was no biggie for me, or often it was actually a lot of fun. Once i had to wear a blood pressure monitor for 24h which started buzzing every half an hour, that was actually fun and had the side benefit of having my BP etc checked out.

during my studies to become a psychologist and neuroscientist, there was an obligatory amount of (f)MRi studies i had to take part at to receive a necessary amount of credit points. the problem was i was hardly ever allowed to actually take part at the studies because of my diagnoses and medication so at some point at started lying and told them i was fine..

I took part at different studies. For one I did not even get any money. When I hear someone got 1200 bucks this seems pretty astonishing to me.
However I would never take part in medication/ pills studies. At least for now. When desperation grows maybe.
