I wish I could point you to any resources on this topic, but just to chip in as I've thought about this method lightly, I think it's definitely potentially effective depending on the quality of the belt, but even moreso depending on what you attach it to. I hope your thread gets more attention, and you get substantial information regarding this!

I see a trust-worthy guy here who says it's as good as the rope, search for "belt" in the forum, you can find older threads related to it

In theory, it should be good enough, assuming it's a good quality one and not too big.

I've seen many failed belt attempts happened because the buckles broke.

As for thickness it's purely speculative on my part because most belt is way bigger than the recommended rope thickness (12mm).

I attempted w. a belt and was unsuccessful. I let the buckle act as the slip, and tied the other end to a beam. It didn't hold. I also used a towel bc the belt cuts into your neck and the towel helps to compress the blood vessels in the neck, speeding up unconsciousness.

Robin Williams was successful w. a belt, and he merely sat down w. the other end wedged in a door frame. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Investigators-Robin-Williams-hanged-himself-5683229.php

My cousin was also successful - we found a belt nearby but he ended up using rope & a towel, we assume the belt failed.

I will say this from my attempt - this is a hard way to go. The body panics as it looses oxygen and fights, you can't help but feel that, so my last feelings and thoughts before blacking out were not easy.

i tryed a few times with belt, works but you can only do partial so if you not determent the SI makes you quit

make a knot on the the end and lay it over a door so the belt get wedged between the door and frame

I would say a rope is better but belt I think would do the job.
