these are some old epi cuts i took back when i was younger lol (aka epidermis, aka cat scratches)
i always thought about cutting deeper but i honestly preferred other methods of self harm so i stopped cutting as much.
i personally think these pics are beautiful but what do y'all think? :)

Pretty pictures tonestoss <3 thanks for posting them.

I've been feeling more despair, worthlessness and self-hatred in the past three months than any other time in my life (due to a few factors which I may talk about here in future). I've heard that cutting can help relieve stress in times like these. I'm not an impulsive person and I catastrophize over everything, so I like to plan and prepare anything I do as much as possible. I understand that the reasons for cutting are different for everyone, and I'm not trying to invalidate anyone else, but I'm personally approaching cutting as a calculated coping/stress-relief mechanism, rather than something spontaneous or self-destructive (I'm extremely sorry if this comes off as rude in any way).

How can I cut while ensuring that they come out like tonestoss' pics (i.e. epidural/"cat scratches")? I only want to feel pain (the rubber band method didn't satisfy me) and see blood, not cause permanent damage. I've seen videos of people cutting on SaSu and Twitter and in both the person pressed the blade against their skin and swiped quickly. This immediately created quite a wide styro cut, maybe even some "beans". The thought of seeing my skin split open like that, or worse, accidentally causing nerve damage, is absolutely terrifying and revolting to me; I think I'd vomit instantly. (The thought that there are veins and nerves and tendons under my skin disgusts me, which is also probably the reason why I have an extreme phobia of needles).

I'm sorry for talking too much. Can someone with experience please tell me how to cut "safely"?

Hey, I know you're going through a pretty hard time right now and though I cannot stop you, I just want to say that self-harm isn't the best coping mechanism to turn to. It'll leave behind scars no matter what and you could accidentally cut deeper too. You also risk infections if you don't know how to properly take care of your cuts. Also, you might become too dependent on self-harm or even addicted and it might just end up ruining your life. It's really not worth it

Thank you! I'm usually insecure about them and this made me feel better

i was just like you once.
i typically just use a small blade and don't use too much pressure, but even these cuts in the pictures left damage that i can still see a year later 💔
I doubt this will stop you at all, but if you see this at all please do not let this addiction ruin your life and body the way it did mine.

hi, nice cat scratches you've got there, hope you took good care of them. ^_^

honestly i feel like epi cuts should be more appreciated among the sh 'community', since i only have the courage to cut on the surface (going any deeper terrifies me), but at the same time any type of sh is unhealthy regardless so it's not like it should be advocated for either...

i only cut enough to see myself bleed and deal with the pain. going any further would be unnecessary and the thought of having my skin stretch open (possibly down to beans) while bleeding much more than i should freaks me the hell out. i don't know how people get the courage. but well, i won't judge them if that's what they choose (long as they tend to their wounds). i'll personally stick to making baby cuts in the meantime
