I used to be in the same position i lost my job and managed to get somewhere to 10k debt. I was kinda suicidal too because it made me homeless but after 2 years i managed to pay it al back and found a new home. A year later i was diagnosed with deformational plagiocephaly and hairloss on top so now im back here and this time i cant fight it sadly ♥️ it takes some effort and i know exactly how you feel but its nothing that cant be managed if you got the willpower

I've basically been broke for 10 years, despite working my arse off constantly. The cost of living in my area is just too overwhelming for one salary to cover. I don't have work in the winter, so I'm in the same boat right now.... $200 left on my overdraft to last for 2 weeks with car payment, insurance and rent due before them.
I'm screwed right now.
Where are u from? and why that area u lyve yn ys so expencve?

I know it seems positive but in a way its confirmation bias. There are people for example that get kicked out by parents and end up homeless, in prison for life or drug addicted and die.

In the same way that it seems that everyone can recover from losing their job and homelessness but that's not the case.

Yes. Ironically those bills are BECAUSE of suicidal ideation. It's a vicious freaking circle. I want out.

Yes, I think "there's nothing that can't be accomplished if you have the willpower" is horsesh*t. You could take my life as an example. Society is literally stacked against us, the only thing that wins is power, profits, exploiting weakness.

It's not my main reason, but I owe about $6k in hospital bills and can't afford to pay it because I'm broke with no job and am waiting for a decision on disability.
If you don't mind me asking, what country are you in? Here in the US, you can just continue to owe medical bills forever.

Last I checked, I had something like $89,000 owed from that fun time I had cancer and my insurance refused to pay because they didn't think my tests were medically necessary. They don't even try to collect anymore, and my credit wasn't affected. of course, I have shit credit so it doesn't even matter.

I'm sure I have some unpaid ER visits, too. Same thing.

To avoid confusion, I'm not telling anyone to not pay bills. Just telling my own experiences. Maybe there are options.

I'm in the US and I thought it would lower your credit score

My score never changed, so I don't think so? I've been carrying these bills for 9 years and never saw any of them pop up on my credit report when I checked it. Just credit card debt.

Mine started before the bills, but I could still see a glimmer of hope and held on knowing that I had money in the bank and was at least covered on that part. Now Im broke, unemployed cant pay bills, and this is the thing that will most likely, and is,going to push me over the edge. When I had money to do things,I still wasn't happy but having no money or means to take care of yourself and your responsibilities is even worse.Especially when you are alone.

Normal bills usually do, although you've got to watch them because sometimes you have to manually have it removed. But like none of my medical bills ever showed up to begin with. I got sent to collections for a few of them but they gave up really fast and now they don't even try.

At least at the time, there was something special about the way they were billed that prevented that. I'm just assuming it's the same now, but who knows with how screwed up the world is.

Anyway I hope this maybe helps put your mind at ease a little bit.

OH! Another thing is if you tell them flat-out you can't pay but maybe you can give them a dollar a month or something and then actually do it, even if you stop sometimes they're so shocked that they got anything out of you that they write off the debt. I've had that happen in the past too and someone else I know did.

I can relate to that. Before I became suicidal I had zero debt, now it's humongous debt!!!!

I'm in the UK. I've worked as a debt advisor, and I have debt myself. It's a small part of my decision, but only a small part.

Not for financial reasons alone, but for personal and philosophical reasons. I do have student loan debt that I will have to pay off eventually, but as of 2020, I don't have income so it's being pushed back until I earn enough money. With that said, if I CTB'd or died (due to other causes and what not), then I'd wouldn't miss much and it would all be irrelevant (as I would dead).
