This is something that I asked myself. I am not an expert on many issues I comment on. But I still comment on them anyway.
There is a Youtube comment under the new rabbit hole SaSu video.
"We don't encourage this"..."TAKE THE BUS" The post has more than 1100 likes.
These people base their opinion on this site on one video. Some of them might read some articles more about it. And that's it.
I think I know this forum quite well. And I read a lot about suicide and reflected on my own suicidality. And from what I have read the media coverage about suicide forums does not align with scientifical evidence/research. I think there were scholars that criticized the way the New York Times reported about this forum. And that the way the media reports about this issue is one sided and black and white thinking. I read this a few years ago but there is a lack of studies about forums like this one. So the media reporting is not really based on profound empirical findings.
You really get the feeling its a mob mentality.
People will say people like you and me are too biased for making this judgement. We are too emotionally involved in it. But I have the feeling the media also has a clear bias when reporting about suicide (also assisted suicide).
I wonder whether I am also part of the herd/sheep on topics I read about in news media. I am formulating an opinion very quickly. And I also share it with other people.
I have the feeling if experts on other some fields listened to my takes on AI, politics and philosophy they might also be annoyed by it. Most of my information stems from the media. And I follow many mainstream narratives. And I don't know all the details before sharing my thoughts on it.
I am often scared to be an ignorant person. This is why I am criticizing myself so much. But it is also a part of my identity that I love to share thought-provoking thoughts. But I think sophisticated experts in these fierds would be rather bored by them.
